🟣 BAKER’S CYST (POP LITEAL CYST
🔷 What is it?

➟ A Baker’s cyst is a fluid-filled swelling behind the knee
➟ Caused by excess synovial fluid leaking into the popliteal space
➟ Usually linked to underlying knee joint problems

⚠️ Common Causes

➟ Osteoarthritis (wear & tear inflammation)
➟ Meniscus tear (cartilage injury)
➟ Rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune inflammation)

⚡ Symptoms

🦵 Local Signs
➟ Soft lump behind the knee
➟ More visible when standing

🔄 Movement Issues
➟ Knee stiffness
➟ Pain on bending or straightening

⚠️ Important Note
➟ Some cases are asymptomatic
➟ If ruptured →
➡️ Sudden calf pain
➡️ Swelling & redness (can mimic DVT)

➟ Physical examination
➟ Ultrasound or MRI (to confirm + rule out other causes)

🧊 Conservative
➟ Rest, ice, elevation
➟ Activity modification

💉 Medical
➟ Anti-inflammatory medications
➟ Fluid aspiration
➟ Corticosteroid injection

🏃 Rehabilitation
➟ Physiotherapy (strength + mobility)

🛠️ Surgical (if needed)
➟ Treat underlying cause (e.g., meniscus repair)

✔️ Usually good
✔️ Improves when underlying knee condition is treated
