From national implementation to published evidence

Cancer Foundation of India is pleased to share a new publication in Vaccines: “Building Physician Capacity for HPV Vaccine Uptake in India.”

Implemented in partnership with the American Cancer Society, FOGSI and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, the train-the-trainer programme reached 18,206 physicians across India. The study found stronger HPV-vaccination knowledge, greater confidence in addressing parents’ concerns and increased intention among post-training respondents to recommend the vaccine.

CFI brought the medical societies into the partnership and led the programme’s national coordination and day-to-day implementation. The findings reinforce an important message: expanding access to HPV vaccination must be supported by informed and confident physicians who can build trust among parents.

Cancer Foundation of India (CFI) continues its journey towards excellence, earning the JOYEE Award 2026 from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) West Bengal and the India Women Network (IWN) for the 4th consecutive year.

As JOYEE celebrates a decade of recognising healthcare leaders and industry pioneers, this award reflects the dedication, compassion, and collective effort that drives our mission every day.

This recognition is especially meaningful as CFI marks 25 years of advancing cancer prevention, awareness, and early detection. We remain committed to building a future where cancer is prevented before it begins and everyone has access to the knowledge and care they need.

31,000 physicians, across India, trained on HPV vaccination in just one year.
This milestone reflects a powerful collaboration between Cancer Foundation of India and the Indian Medical Association (IMA), brought to life by a supercharged National HPV Faculty from FOGSI.
Supported by the American Cancer Societyican Cancer Society, this initiative marks a first for India. For CFI, leading its implementation has been both a privilege and deeply satisfying.
Together, we move closer to eliminating cervical cancer from India.

Conversations matter! When informed, adolescents speak without fear, it signals progress not just in policy, but in public confidence.

These young girls understand prevention, that families are choosing evidence over misinformation, and that public health messages are reaching communities.

On the day of the launch on 28th February, 2026, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, interacted directly with girls who had received the HPV vaccine, asking what they knew about it, whether anyone discouraged them, and if they felt afraid. Their confident, informed responses reflect growing awareness and trust in science.

At moments like this, it is essential to remain grounded in science. The HPV vaccine is backed by more than two decades of robust global safety data. It is recommended by the World Health Organization and is part of national immunisation programmes in over 150 countries worldwide.
