Respect Every Artist. Stop Violence on Stage.
Today our heart is heavy.
*Jolopropat Band* — an upcoming under-18 group from Koinadhora — finally got their dream: first big Bihu stage at Khanapara.farmgate. They had already begun. A few songs sung, the crowd was listening, their hard work paying off.
Then it all stopped. A “senior artist” arrived, the committee ordered them off mid-performance, and when these kids questioned it, organisers beat them up. Children from Jolopropat Band injured. Taken to Health City Hospital straight from backstage.
You let them climb the stage, win the crowd, and then you break them? What kind of organiser raises a hand on children who were doing their job — singing for Assam?
Since when did Bihu committees get the right to humiliate an artist mid-song? To choose violence over dialogue? We shout “Joi Aai Axom” from the mic, but backstage we crush the very kids who will carry Assam’s music forward.
Late-night drinking, ego, and chaos at Bihu functions has become routine. This must stop.
A stage is sacred. Whether you’ve sung 2 songs or 200, you deserve dignity and safety. If we don’t protect Jolopropat Band and others like them today, no parent will trust a Bihu stage tomorrow. Assam will lose a generation of voices.
We demand:
1. Zero tolerance for violence against any artist, especially minors.
2. Written contracts + fixed time slots so no one is pulled off mid-set.
3. Ban alcohol in artist/backstage areas.
4. Accountability— FIR under JJ Act Sec 75 + BNS Sec 115 against anyone who hurts a child artist.
To *Jolopropat Band*: You didn’t just sing those few songs. You roared. Assam heard you. We stand with you. Your next stage will be safer, and we’ll make sure of it.
TO EVERY BIHU COMMITTEE: You are caretakers of culture, not owners of artists. Act like it.
