Let's understand the muscle-building process in a simpler way.

Resistance training is used to put stress on the muscle causing damage to the muscle fibers. This adaptation to stress over time is what will cause muscle growth. That’s why it is important to be progressing over time when you train. Your body will eventually adapt to your routine.
But our body needs to recover from that stress first. Adequate nutrition especially protein will help repair our muscles to be stronger & bigger over time. Rest is very important for this also as this process happens when we are rested not when we are in the gym training.
