In India - where health is approached holistically, the importance of prevention is deeply understood, and spirituality is omnipresent - ๐™ก๐™ž๐™›๐™š ๐™—๐™š๐™œ๐™–๐™ฃ ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™ข๐™–๐™ ๐™š ๐™จ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™š ๐™–๐™œ๐™–๐™ž๐™ฃ.

My greatest teacher has been my experience with cancer.

It gave me a completely different perspective on life - and the ๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜๐—ต. Because when your health is at stake, everything else becomes secondary.

I learned to follow what feels right and true to me - even when it wasnโ€™t understood or socially accepted. To ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜๐—ต - over and over again - even when itโ€™s hard, uncomfortable, or painful.

I bow to this teacher called cancer - one that has taken and stripped away parts of me I thought I could never live without, but has instead given me something of far greater value in return.

Grateful to have survived and been given a second chance - which I choose to live more slowly and with greater awareness. Each day - each moment - now feels like a sacred gift to be experienced fully, ideally in good health.

After both my main chest muscles were cut from the ribs and stitched back again following breast amputation, I could never have imagined my body would be able to do these poses again. How remarkable the bodyโ€™s intelligence and healing abilityโ€ฆ

Every surgery, and especially every phase of recovery, reminds me - again and again -
what a privilege it is simply to move.

While you are reading this, I am (hopefully) still seated on my meditation cushion, navigating the hurdles of my mind. While I am at it, let's talk a bit more about the benefits of meditation and what differentiates Vipassana from the techniques mentioned before.

Some of the scientifically-backed benefits, that could also be beneficial during cancer recovery:
โ€ฃ stress reduction;
โ€ฃ pain management;
โ€ฃ better sleep quality;
โ€ฃ emotional regulation and resilience;
โ€ฃ improved focus and attention-span.

Lastly, Vipassana, which can be translated as 'insight', was discovered by Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) and reintroduced and brought to the west by S.N. Goenka. It's a non-religious, non-sectarian meditation technique, starting with breath awareness, gradually progressing to focus on bodily sensations. Through the practice of self-observation, Vipassana cultivates profound self-awareness, resulting in the benefits as outlined above.

Even with just 5 to 10 minutes a day (consistently) you can reap the benefits of this practice! Happy meditating! ๐Ÿซถ
