Jimtin 500 injection
Imipenem → a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic.
Cilastatin → an enzyme inhibitor (DHP-1 inhibitor) that prevents breakdown of imipenem in the kidneys, so the antibiotic works more effectively.
💉 Uses
It is used for serious bacterial infections, such as:
Severe pneumonia and other lower respiratory infections
Complicated urinary tract infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Sepsis, endocarditis, and other serious systemic infections
⚖️ Typical dosage (adults)
500 mg/500 mg IV every 6–8 hours, depending on severity and kidney function.
Usual maximum: about 4 g/day (of imipenem).
⚠️ Important points
Side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, seizures (higher risk if kidney function is poor).
Contraindications: allergy to carbapenems/β-lactam antibiotics; use with caution in patients prone to seizures or with renal impairment (dose adjustment needed).
Must be used only on doctor’s prescription and generally given in a hospital setting under supervision.
