My Article on 4.2.25 in TheIndianExpress World Cancer Day 2025: United for Early Detection and Better Care
Every experience with cancer is unique, shaped by personal challenges and resilience. This World Cancer Day, observed on February 4, 2025, we unite under the theme , aiming to improve cancer care by prioritizing individuals and communities.
Early detection is critical, as it significantly improves survival rates. Key warning signs include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, lumps, changes in moles, unusual bleeding, chronic cough, and difficulty swallowing. Other symptoms, such as changes in bowel or bladder habits and non-healing sores, should not be ignored.
Regular screenings save lives. Women should have mammograms for breast cancer and Pap smears for cervical cancer. Men benefit from PSA tests for prostate cancer. For everyone, colonoscopies, low-dose CT scans, and skin checks are vital preventive measures.
This World Cancer Day, let’s commit to equity in care, early detection, and supporting all affected by cancer. Together, we can build a future of hope and compassion.
