One of the most exhausting things a person can do is spend their life trying to be someone else.

Trying to fit expectations that don’t feel right.
Trying to earn approval.
Trying to live according to a script that no longer fits.

Whether it’s in our work, relationships, beliefs, identity, or daily choices, many of us know what it’s like to drift away from ourselves.

And yet, the moments that feel most alive are often the moments when we stop performing and start paying attention to what feels true.

Letting go doesn’t mean you stop caring. It just means you stop managing.

Try taking one small step back today. Ask a curious question instead of giving an order. Challenge your own narrative about what “needs” to happen. Let a low-stakes mistake happen, sit with that temporary wave of discomfort, and remind yourself that it’s all part of the process.

I think many of us are carrying lives that feel mentally overcrowded. Too much input. Too much urgency. Too much consumption. Too many tabs open emotionally and digitally at the same time.

And perhaps this is why even beautiful lives can begin to feel exhausting.

We often think fulfilment comes from adding more:
more plans, more achievement, more possessions, more stimulation.

But sometimes what we’re actually craving is space.

Space to think.
Space to feel.
Space to rest without guilt.
Space to hear ourselves again.

The older I get, the more I realise that emptiness is not always absence.
Sometimes it is what allows life to finally breathe.

We keep creating new folders for our goals, but what about the ones we’re actively hiding in the corner of the screen?

When life gets overwhelming, our brain’s natural coping mechanism is to compartmentalize. We create digital “piles” of the things we promise we’ll deal with later when the project ends, when the weekend hits, when we finally catch our breath.

But true whole-person thriving means you can’t just keep minimizing the heavy windows. They sit there, consuming background memory, draining your energy, and keeping your nervous system on edge.

And punishing yourself the next morning usually creates more noise than awareness.

Sometimes the better question is not “Why did I do that?”
but “What was I needing in that moment?”

A little more curiosity toward ourselves can change a lot.
