Birth story of our Proactive9 mum Mansi Rathi 🙂
Hello all,
Here is my (long) birth story.
I observed a small water leakage along with a few droplets of bleeding with no pains/contractions on 9th of April (Saturday) around 7 pm. Then only I realised that the baby is on its way but my husband was travelling and was reaching in next morning. So I did not tell anybody around me neither I panicked as I know that this is just the start of the labour.
Around 8:30 pm, I called up at my doctor's place and the receptionist asked me to visit the hospital for the checkup but the doctor was not around as it was weekend. I decided not to go as if I tell my inlaws they would have created panic, rushed to hospital immediately and got me admitted at night only.
I decided to stay at home as there was no pain till than. As the night proceeded, I started to have mild back pain, I got a little anxious about my decision to not go to the hospital. I reached out to Dr Isha at 11 pm and she responded promptly. She advised me to not take risk and be assured with the checkup as it was night time and Sunday ahead and tell my inlaws about initial labour in case they create panic.
Also she calmed me down by telling me that this was not a emergency situation and I can even wait till morning if I feel so.
I decided to go to hospital if the pain elevates with time.
As the time passed, my back pain increased and I practiced breathing. Around 3:30 am, I decided to go to the hospital for the checkup to be assured about the situation.
The resident doctor checked and told me that I was 1 cm dilated and I should get admitted then only. But I remember from the lamaze class that I should not get admitted untill I am 3 cm dilated. And I told the doctor the same.
I came back home, did breathing exercises and went back to hospital for admission around 8:00 am. After admission, the doctors gave me all sort of injections/medicines to elevate pains. My husband also reached the hospital during this time. My pains got extreme to the level that i was begging for epidural and c-sec in the end. But as I have almost completed the required dilation, the doctors denied me the same. After 4 hours of labour, I delivered a healthy baby boy on 10th of April around noon with my husband on my side.
At the end, when i look back, I realise that to not get admitted at 1 cm was the best decision that I could take during my entire labor because i was waiting for my birth partner to reach by the time I gave birth so I did not do the exercises during initial phase of labour, because I wanted to not fasten the labor as I was expecting my husband in sometime, but all I did was breathing which helped me sail through till end.
This all was possible because of the awareness that I got through lamaze class. Also, breastfeeding class proved to be the next helpful session for me.
Thankyou Dr Isha and Dr Leena for their support and the entire ecosystem that they have build through their whatsapp group.
Lots of love to you & your lo❤️
