HPR stands for Healthcare Professional Registry, a centralized digital database under India's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) that stores verified credentials of healthcare providers.
For pharmacists, HPR integration means linking your professional pharmacist profile from the PRTS/DIGI-PHARMed Portal with a national digital ID managed alongside the National Health Authority (NHA).
Key Details of HPR for Pharmacists
Digital Identity: It gives you a verified, standardized digital professional record linking your qualifications and State Pharmacy Council registration to the national health ecosystem.
Mandatory Requirement: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has made HPR profile registration and validation compulsory for both new and existing registered pharmacists.
Timeline for Existing Users: Pharmacists already registered on the DIGI-PHARMed portal must complete their profile verification and HPR integration (typically within 15 days of official circular notices) to prevent account deactivation.
No Replacement: HPR does not replace your physical or state-level registration; it acts as an additional digital verification layer.
PCI asks all existing pharmacists to complete integration of profile with HPR
The integration of Pharmacist Registration and Tracking System (PRTS) or DIGI-Pharmed portal with the Health Professional Registry (HPR) has been made functional now and the existing registered pharmacists need to complete and validate their HPR profile in a stipulated time frame, informs the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI)
The Council has informed all concerned stakeholders including pharmacists, State Pharmacy Councils, State Governments, and approved institutions that the HPR integration with DIGI-Pharmed is live now.
HPR is a comprehensive repository of registered and verified different system of medicines (modern medicine, dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, Homoeopathy) and nurses practitioners delivering healthcare services across the country.
The PCI has been integrating its database with the HPR, collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA), with the objective of establishing a standardised, digitally verifiable registry of healthcare professionals, facilitating seamless integration and verification of pharmacist-related information with the National Digital Health ecosystem.
"With the Go-Live of the HPR functionality, all existing pharmacists registered on Digi-Pharmed Portal with valid BH-P Number (Username) and new users of the PRTS/DIGI-PHARMed Portal shall be required to complete the prescribed HPR registration and validation process along with the DIGI-Pharmed registration process," said the Council in a circular.
The existing pharmacists registered on DIGI-Pharmed portal with valid BH-P number, the centralised portal number issued through the portal, should log into the DIGI-Pharmed portal and update their profile, review and validate the professional, educational and registration details available in the system, complete any pending information or fields required for HPR registration, and complete the HPR profile registration process within 15 days from the date of the circular.
Once updated, the profile will be scrutinised by the State Pharmacy Council. With the State Council approves the profile, the HPR card for the registered pharmacist will be generated, said the Central Council.
"It is further notified that, with effect from the date of Go-Live i.e. 12.08.2026, generation of an HPR profile shall be mandatory for all new users/profiles registered through the PRTS/DIGI-PHARMed Portal or NHA Portal, wherever applicable," said the Council.
All newly registered pharmacists should complete the HPR registration process as part of the prescribed registration workflow and such profiles will be shared to the State Councils for the approval to generate the HPR Card, it added.
The PCI also requested all State Councils to disseminate the information among all registered pharmacists under their jurisdiction, complete the approval and confirmation process for all pending registrations of NHA portal or DIGI-Pharmed portal in a timebound manner, and encourage existing users to complete the HPR validation and profile generation process within the stipulated 15 day period.
It also asked the State Councils to ensure that new users are appropriately informed about the mandatory HPR profile generation and provide necessary support and guidance to users for completion of the process.
It may be noted that the PCI, in November, 2024, asked all the pharmacists who don't have the ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) number to attain a number and ensure registration with the DIGI-PHARMed profile with the ABHA number on immediate basis, as part of its efforts to integrate the pharmacists' list with the Healthcare Professional Registry (HPR).
The repository is part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which empowers healthcare professionals to be part of India’s digital health ecosystem through a unique Healthcare professional ID. With last mile coverage, people will be able to interact with healthcare practitioners or vice versa.
Healthcare professional profile visible in the ABDM ecosystem is verified and authorised to practice medicine in the country. The HPR ensures that healthcare practitioners suitably trained and qualified to practice medicine with competence and ethical conformity are allowed to register with the HPR.
