Acupuncture 'cure' for migraine

Acupuncture is more effective than drugs in relieving the misery of migraine, says a study. Experts who administered the needles treatment to women suffering from the debilitating condition found they had fewer attacks and needed less painkilling medication. Researchers focused on classical migraine - or migraine with aura - when the piercing headache is preceded by visual disturbances. They conducted a trial of 160 patients at the Woman's Headache found that women who received acupuncture had fewer migraines during the first four months of treatment. They also needed less medication than those taking the drug flunarizine, used to prevent blinding headaches. women to have acupuncture once a week for two months, then once monthly for an additional four months. Needles were placed in the same points during each treatment, and left in the patient's body for 20 minutes. Another group of 80 women had a daily dose of flunarizine for two months, then took it 20 times per month over the next four months. Both groups of women experienced fewer headaches overall, said researchers. However, patients who used acupuncture had fewer migraines than those taking flunarizine during the first four months of the study - an average-of 2.3 attacks compared with 2.9 in the drug group. And the needles therapy appeared to reduce migraine pain and lower the need for drugs. The findings could help the six million migraine sufferers in Britain. The condition affects 20 per cent of women and six per cent of men. Acupuncture, a therapy which began in China more than 2,000 years ago, involves placing fine needles at specific points on the body's surface. The needles are said to relax the nervous system around central pain pathways and promote the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. A report from the British Medical Association's board of science said there was 'good evidence' from clinical trials that acupuncture relieved nausea - particularly after surgery - back pain and dental pain. However, its effect on neck pain, stroke recovery and joint problems was less clear and it did not help patients trying to stop smoking or lose weight.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a traditional therapy where cups are placed on the skin to create suction.
The suction pulls the skin and superficial tissues upward, often leaving temporary circular marks.

Common types

Dry cupping: suction only no skin piercing.
Wet cupping Hijama the skin is lightly punctured after suction so a small amount of blood is drawn.
Fire cupping: heat is used briefly inside a glass cup to create the vacuum.. For more info visit us at https://www.rajtaskar.com/latest-update/cupping-therapy/486?utm_source=facebookpage

Shoulder anatomy overview

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body, which also makes it vulnerable to injury. It consists of:
The ball and socket joint
Rotator cuff muscles
Tendons and ligaments
Bursa (fluid sacs)
Cartilage
Nerves
Bones including the clavicle, scapula, and humerus These bones form four joints:
The glenohumeral joint is a ball-and-socket joint.
The sternoclavicular joint, at the top of the chest,
The acromioclavicular joint
The scapulothoracic joint is where the scapula glides across the rib cage in the back of the shoulder. For more info visit us at https://www.rajtaskar.com/latest-update/acupuncture-therapy-for-shoulder-joint-pain/485?utm_source=facebookpage

Acupuncture Balance method

The basic idea is different from conventional acupuncture:

Treats the meridians on the opposite side or a different related meridian rather than necessarily needling the painful area.
Uses meridian relationships and balance systems to determine which points to select.
Often aims for a rapid change in pain or movement while the needles are retained.
Practitioners may test the patient’s range of motion or symptoms before and after needling.
It is commonly used for musculoskeletal pain, though practitioners apply it to other complaints too.

For example for right shoulder pain, a Balance Method practitioner might select points on the left leg or arm according to the particular meridian involved.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

How it works: Inserting micro-needles creates positive micro-traumas in the skin. This triggers a localized healing response, encouraging blood circulation, lymphatic drainage, and collagen synthesis.
Primary goals
Improving skin elasticity, softening fine lines, evening skin tone, and relaxing tight facial muscle groups such as jaw tension from TMJ
Treatment timeline
A standard protocol typically consists of 10 to 12 weekly sessions, followed by monthly or bi-monthly maintenance treatments to sustain results.
Downtime
Minimal to none
Minor bruising or temporary redness at needle insertion points are the most common side effects.
We could look at how it compares to Botox or dermal fillers, detail what happens during a step-by-step session, or explore expected costs and safety considerations. . For more info visit us at https://www.rajtaskar.com/latest-update/cosmetic-acupuncture/482?utm_source=facebookpage

Acupuncture for Lumbar Spondylitis

lumbar spondylosis degenerative changes in the lower spine, which is often confused with lumbar spondylitis acupuncture may help reduce pain for some people, but it is not considered a cure.

Here’s what current evidence suggests

Pain relief: Acupuncture can provide modest, short-term relief of chronic low back pain, including pain related to lumbar spondylosis, in some individuals.
Function: Some people experience improved mobility and ability to perform daily activities.

Inflammation and structural changes
There is no strong evidence that acupuncture reverses spinal degeneration or repairs damaged discs or joints.

When it may be worth considering

Acupuncture is often used as part of a broader treatment plan that may include:

Physical therapy and exercises to strengthen the core and back muscles.
Activity modification and good posture.
Pain-relieving medications, if appropriate.
Weight management, if excess weight is contributing to symptoms.
Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified, licensed practitioner using sterile, single-use needles. Mild bruising or soreness at needle sites can occur. Avoid treatment from unqualified providers.

When to seek prompt medical evaluation

If you have back pain along with any of the following, you should seek medical care promptly.

Weakness in one or both legs.
Numbness in the groin or around the buttocks.
Loss of bladder or bowel control.
Fever, unexplained weight loss, or severe pain after a significant injury.. For more info visit us at https://www.rajtaskar.com/latest-update/acupuncture-for-lumbar-spondylitis/480?utm_source=facebookpage

Acupuncture therapy for Motor Neurone Disease

Acupuncture has been studied as a complementary therapy for Motor Neurone Disease,
reliable evidence that it slows the disease, restores lost nerve function, or prolongs survival.

What the evidence suggests

Possible symptom relief: Some small studies and patient reports suggest acupuncture may help with symptoms such as:
Muscle pain or stiffness
Muscle cramps
Neck or shoulder discomfort
Stress and anxiety
Sleep difficulties
No proven effect on disease progression: High-quality clinical trials have not shown that acupuncture can stop or reverse the degeneration of motor neurons.
Evidence quality is limited: Many published studies have been small, lacked rigorous controls, or had methodological limitations, making firm conclusions difficult.

If someone with MND is considering acupuncture

It may be reasonable as an adjunct to standard medical care, provided:

It is performed by a qualified, licensed practitioner.
The neurologist or healthcare team is aware, especially if the person has respiratory problems, is taking blood thinners, or has significant muscle wasting.
Expectations are realistic: the goal is symptom management and comfort, not treating the underlying disease.

Treatments with stronger evidence

Management of MND typically focuses on:

Disease-modifying medication when appropriate (such as Rilutek or other approved therapies depending on the country and clinical situation)
Physical and occupational therapy
Speech and swallowing support
Nutritional support
Respiratory care
Medications for muscle cramps, spasticity, excessive saliva, pain, and other symptoms

Bottom line

Acupuncture may help some people feel more comfortable by reducing certain symptoms, but it has not been shown to treat the underlying disease or alter the course of Motor Neurone Disease. It is best used, if at all, as part of a comprehensive care plan rather than as a replacement for evidence-based treatment.. Acupuncture for Joint Pain

Q1: What is acupuncture therapy?
A: Acupuncture is a traditional treatment that involves inserting very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to help relieve pain, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Q2: Can acupuncture help with joint pain?
A: Yes. Many people use acupuncture to help manage joint pain caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, sports injuries, or general wear and tear. Some studies suggest it may reduce pain and improve function for certain people.

Q3: Which joints can be treated with acupuncture?
A: Acupuncture is commonly used for pain affecting the knees, shoulders, hips, elbows, wrists, ankles, neck, and lower back.

Q4: Is acupuncture painful?
A: Most people feel little to no pain. The needles are much thinner than injection needles, and you may notice a mild tingling, warmth, or dull ache during treatment.

Q5: How many sessions are needed?
A: The number of sessions varies depending on the condition, its severity, and individual response. Some people notice improvement after a few sessions, while others may benefit from a longer course of treatment.

Q6: Is acupuncture safe?
A: When performed by a qualified, trained practitioner using sterile, single-use needles, acupuncture is generally considered safe. Minor bruising or temporary soreness at needle sites can occur.

Q7: Can acupuncture replace medications or surgery?
A: Acupuncture should not automatically be considered a replacement for medications or surgery. It is often used alongside conventional medical care. Treatment decisions should be made with your healthcare provider based on your specific condition.

Q8: Are there any side effects?
A: Side effects are usually mild and may include slight soreness, bruising, or temporary fatigue. Serious complications are uncommon when acupuncture is performed correctly.

Q9: Who should avoid acupuncture?
A: People with certain bleeding disorders, those taking blood-thinning medications, or individuals with specific medical conditions should discuss acupuncture with their healthcare provider before treatment. Pregnant individuals should inform the practitioner, as some acupuncture points are avoided during pregnancy.

Q10: Can acupuncture be combined with physiotherapy or exercise?
A: Yes. Acupuncture is often combined with physiotherapy, stretching, strengthening exercises, and lifestyle changes as part of a broader pain management plan.

Key takeaway:
Acupuncture may help reduce joint pain and improve mobility for some people, but results vary. It works best as part of a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to the individual’s condition and needs..
