🌍 Disposable Planet. Disposable Future?

We often believe that once something is thrown away, it disappears.

But the truth is far more uncomfortable.

Plastic, packaging, food waste, and single-use products do not simply vanish. They accumulate in our oceans, landfills, ecosystems, and ultimately in the world we leave behind.

The planet is not disposable.

Every item we discard carries an environmental cost — from resource extraction and manufacturing to waste management and pollution.

As we move towards a Net Zero future, the conversation must extend beyond emissions to consumption. Because sustainability is not only about what we produce, but also about what we choose to throw away.

At the IHW Council, through the Net Zero Hour Summit & Awards 2026, we are bringing together leaders, innovators, and changemakers to explore solutions that promote circularity, responsible consumption, and long-term sustainability.

Because there is no "away" when we throw things away.

A cigarette burns for a few minutes.
Its impact can last for generations.

To***co is often viewed as an individual choice. Its consequences are not.

Every year, to***co-related illnesses place a significant burden on families, healthcare systems, workplaces, and communities. Beyond the health risks lies a larger social cost—lost productivity, financial strain on households, rising healthcare expenditure, and preventable pressure on public health systems.

The true cost of to***co is not measured only in ci******es consumed, but in opportunities lost, futures affected, and communities weakened.

As we observe World No To***co Day, the conversation must move beyond individual habits and towards collective responsibility.

Because healthier communities are built not only through treatment, but through prevention, awareness, and informed action.

At IHW Council, we believe sustainable impact begins when awareness leads to action, and when prevention becomes a shared responsibility.

Awareness. Advocacy. Action. Impact.

“Women are taught to tolerate discomfort long before they are taught to understand their health.”

This International Women’s Health Day, the conversation cannot remain limited to hospitals, prescriptions, or awareness slogans alone.

Because one of the biggest women’s health crises in India today is silence.

Silence around menstrual health.
Silence around reproductive disorders.
Silence around hormonal imbalance.
Silence around mental exhaustion.
Silence around intimate health concerns that women continue to normalise every single day.

Recent reports suggest that more than 70% of Indian women experience gynaecological health issues, many of which remain undiagnosed because of stigma, hesitation, lack of awareness, or delayed medical consultation.

At the same time, a 2024 survey found that only about one-fourth of young Indian women had received formal s*x education.

These two realities are deeply connected.

When education is absent, awareness suffers.
When awareness suffers, symptoms get ignored.
When symptoms get ignored, healthcare gets delayed.
And when healthcare gets delayed, women quietly continue carrying physical pain, emotional stress, fatigue, and untreated conditions while managing families, workplaces, caregiving responsibilities, and everyday life.

Across India, countless women continue to hear:
“It’s normal.”
“It happens to everyone.”
“You worry too much.”
“Don’t talk openly about these things.”

As a society, we have normalised women silently adjusting to pain instead of encouraging them to seek care without shame.

At IHW Council, we believe women’s health must move beyond symbolic campaigns and become part of everyday public dialogue, community awareness, preventive healthcare, workplace inclusion, and policy-driven CSR action.

Because true impact begins when awareness turns into:
education, access, empathy, and action.

This International Women’s Health Day, let us work towards building communities where women are not expected to silently “manage” their health issues, but are empowered to speak, seek care, and prioritise their wellbeing without hesitation.
