Should you walk if you have knee pain?
The answer is not always yes, and not always no.
Many people stop walking as soon as knee pain starts because they're afraid it will damage the joint further. In reality, for many conditions such as knee osteoarthritis, appropriately guided activity can help improve pain, muscle strength, and daily function.
At the same time, if your knee pain is due to a ligament injury, meniscus tear, fracture, infection, or significant swelling, the advice may be completely different.
That's why the diagnosis comes first—not generic advice.
