Insurance or Excuse? Niva Bupa Must Answer Patients

When a patient pays health-insurance premiums for years and finally needs surgery, the insurance company should not be looking for a one-line excuse to walk away from its responsibility.
Yet patients facing reimbursement disputes over robotic-assisted surgery are reporting a deeply troubling response:
“Robotic surgery is not advised for this disease/indication.”
That raises a very simple question:
Who is the insurance company to overrule the treating surgeon's clinical judgment with a generic one-line statement?
So if a patient's particular policy covers the procedure, and the treating specialist has medically recommended robotic-assisted surgery, a vague sentence saying “not advised for this indication” is not good enough.
Patients deserve answers:
1. Which exact clause of the policy is being invoked?
2. What medical evidence supports the assertion that robotic surgery was “not advised” for this particular patient?
3. Has an independent specialist actually reviewed the patient's medical records?
4. If robotic surgery is covered as a modern treatment under the policy, why is the claim being rejected rather than assessed under the applicable coverage/sub-limit?
5. Why are patients being given one-line repudiation/reimbursement explanations instead of a detailed, medically and contractually reasoned decision?
This is not about demanding that every robotic surgery be paid regardless of the policy.
It is about demanding transparency, consistency and accountability when a legitimate claim is denied.
A patient cannot be expected to fight a multi-crore insurance company while recovering from major surgery.
Insurance companies collect premiums by promising financial protection when illness strikes.
That promise cannot become an asterisk-filled advertisement when the patient actually needs the protection.
If Niva Bupa believes these claims are being correctly rejected, let them publish the policy clause, the medical basis for the decision, and the review process.
No more vague one-line answers.
Patients deserve a reason.
Doctors deserve to have their clinical judgment respected.
Policyholders deserve the coverage they paid for.
