NEW DELHI — Despite making the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls a central point of criticism against the Election Commission (EC) and the central government, the opposition INDIA bloc has chosen not to challenge the constitutional or statutory validity of the exercise in its joint writ petition before the Supreme Court.

Instead, the petition—led by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other alliance leaders—confines its legal challenge strictly to alleged procedural irregularities, arbitrary large-scale deletions of voters, and the lack of fair opportunity granted to citizens to rebut their removal from the rolls.

Key Highlights of the Challenge

* Focus on Ex*****on, Not Legitimacy: The petition avoids questioning the EC's authority to order the SIR, concentrating instead on how the drive was carried out on the ground.

From Aryabhata’s Zero to G.D. Naidu’s Motor: The Unbroken Line of Bharat’s True Genius

For generations, mainstream history textbooks made it seem as though scientific inquiry and engineering were purely imported gifts. But the real story of Bharat is an unbroken continuum of indigenous brilliance—spanning from ancient mathematical observatories to grassroots industrial workshops.

On one side stands Aryabhata, who, in the 5th century CE, mapped planetary motions, conceptualized Earth’s diurnal rotation, and laid the foundations of trigonometry and mathematics that transformed global science.

Fast forward to the 20th century, and that same spirit of self-reliant problem-solving manifested in G.D. Naidu—the "Edison of India." With little formal schooling, this Coimbatore visionary engineered India’s first indigenous electric motor, developed mechanical calculators, built innovative public transport systems, and revolutionized agricultural techniques.

Yet, while imperial conquests and courtly elites filled our syllabus chapters, grassroots innovators like Naidu were largely reduced to footnotes.

True cultural resurgence isn't about glorifying the past uncritically; it’s about reclaiming the factual history of our own innovators. Bharat’s genius was never passive—it calculated the cosmos, engineered the soil, and built the machines that set the wheels of self-reliance turning. മികച്ച ഒരു സർക്കാർ ജോലി ലഭിച്ചതോടെ ഒതുങ്ങിക്കൂടാൻ അദ്ദേഹം തയ്യാറായില്ല. കാരണം ഐ.എ.എസ് എന്നതായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥ ലക്ഷ്യം. അദ്ദേഹം വീണ്ടും പുസ്തകങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിയെത്തുകയും അടുത്ത ശ്രമത്തിൽ തന്നെ 26-ാം റാങ്ക് നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
