So, BCCI has organised a musical performance before the start of the India-Pakistan match. Interestingly, no musical performance was organised to mark the opening ceremony of the World Cup which was incidentally played at the same Narendra Modi stadium. But now in the middle of the tournament you find a special treatment for one match.
-Have you heard of any such thing in cricket before?
-Are we going to play a cricket match with Pakistan or are we going to enter a battlefield?
-Is it fair to accord such special treatment for only one match?
-Are other matches, teams, players not equally important?
-Have you ever heard of a musical event in the middle of a tournament?
-How does ICC even allow this?
-I understand the hype, desperation and emotions of the fans but this approach is dangerous to the growth of cricket.
Even during Asia Cup, in the middle of the tournament, rules were changed to introduce a reserve day only for these two teams. Why not other teams?
This is unjust, unfair and so much against the spirit of cricket.
Moreover, BCCI should not operate under the whims and fancies of any individual because in the long run, only institutions stay and individuals vanish. The approach has to be robust and one that promotes the overall interest of cricket.
