What you eat during your period can either support your body… or make everything feel worse.

Fried food might be the most tempting comfort choice, but it often does more harm than good. It can increase inflammation, worsen bloating, and make cramps feel more intense. When your body is already dealing with hormonal shifts, heavy and oily foods only add to the discomfort.

On the other hand, something as simple as a banana can make a real difference. Rich in potassium and vitamin B6, it helps reduce bloating, supports mood balance, and can even ease muscle cramps. Sometimes, the most basic foods are exactly what your body needs.

What you drink matters just as much. Fermented drinks like kanji can be incredibly beneficial they support gut health, reduce inflammation, and help your body stay balanced during this sensitive phase.

Alcohol, especially beer, tends to dehydrate the body, disturb hormonal balance, and can intensify fatigue and mood swings. It might feel relaxing in the moment, but it often makes periods harder overall.

This isn’t about restriction it’s about awareness. Small choices during your cycle can change how you feel, how you function, and how gently you move through those days.

Your body is already doing something powerful. The least you can do is support it, not stress it.

😷You know periods are impure and dirty?

Most women have heard some version of this growing up.And even today, these myths quietly shape how girls and women feel about their own bodies.

Welcome to Episode 3 of “28 Days No One Explained.”

For generations, menstruation has been surrounded by silence, shame, and misinformation. Periods were labeled impure. Period blood was called dirty or toxic. Women were told not to exercise, not to swim, and to believe that a “normal” menstrual cycle must be exactly 28 days.

But when you actually look at the biology of the menstrual cycle, the reality is very different.

Period blood is simply a natural mix of blood, cervical mucus, and uterine tissue that the body sheds when pregnancy doesn’t occur. It is not a detox. It is not waste. It is not something dirty leaving the body. Menstruation is simply a sign that the reproductive system and hormones are functioning.

Another myth many women grow up hearing is that movement during periods is harmful. When cramps and period pain show up, resting can feel comforting, and that’s completely okay. But gentle movement like walking, stretching, or light exercise often helps reduce menstrual cramps. Movement improves blood flow to the uterus and helps release endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers.

And then there’s the idea that every woman must have a perfect 28-day cycle.

Twenty-eight days is only an average used in textbooks. In real life, a healthy menstrual cycle for adults can range anywhere between 21 and 35 days. Hormones fluctuate differently for every woman. What actually matters is that your cycle is consistent for you.

If your cycle suddenly becomes very irregular, extremely painful, or changes dramatically, that’s when it’s important to pay attention and speak with a healthcare professional.

Why did our grandmothers never complain about periods… but we’re struggling every single month?
It’s not drama. It never was.
Three things quietly changed women’s hormones forever and most of us were never told.
Our makeup and skincare are loaded with hormone-disrupting chemicals. Our lives shifted from active and outdoor to sedentary and screen-bound. And eating from plastic? It’s almost impossible to avoid now.
Add chronic stress, late nights, adulterated food, and constantly elevated cortisol… and your body is fighting a silent war every single cycle.
This is showing up in our periods. Our moods. Our fertility. Our future.
What used to be rare is now everywhere.
PCOS and PCOD affected 1 in 14 women in the 90s.
Today? It’s 1 in 4.
Early menopause. Endometriosis. Infertility. These aren’t just medical terms anymore — they’re dinner table conversations.
But here’s what nobody tells you — awareness is the first act of healing.
✦ Know your cycle phases
✦ Track when PMS hits and when ovulation happens
✦ Identify the days you’ll need more rest, more grace, more support
✦ Let the people around you actually show up for you
You are not too sensitive. You are not overreacting. Your body is communicating and it deserves to be understood.
I put together a Period 101 guide that breaks down exactly what’s happening inside your body every week of your cycle so you can stop being blindsided and start feeling in control.
Comment AWARENESS and I’ll send it straight to your DMs.
And if you have a woman in your life who needs to hear this a sister, a friend, a daughter share this with her. Let her know someone gets it.
