12th Feb is celebrated as Saint Ravidas/Rohidas/Raidas Jayanti 🙏🏽🌺
Ravidas or Raidas belonged to a poor class of society, one that was involved in working with animal skins/hides(leather craftsman, Chamar), an occupation considered ‘unclean’ by orthodox standards. He was also a social reformer and an Indian mystic poet-saint of the Bhakti movement during the 15th to 16th century CE.
He taught removal of social divisions of caste and gender, and promoted unity in the pursuit of personal spiritual freedom.
Venerated as a Guru in the modern regions of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. His hymns are included in the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib.
Saint Raidas/Ravidas was a friend and contemporary of Saint Kabir. And Saint Mirabai was the disciple of saint Raidas.
