# WHY YOU’RE STUCK IN LIFE

**For People Who Have Tried Everything to Move Forward — But Somehow Keep Ending Up in the Same Place**

Have you ever wondered why, despite everything you've learned, everything you've tried, and all the work you've done on yourself…

**you still feel stuck?**

You know what you want.

You know you need to change something.

Sometimes you even know *exactly* what needs to change.

And yet you can't seem to move.

Or you do move — only to somehow find yourself right back where you started.

The same patterns.

The same relationships.

The same fears.

The same compromises.

The same feeling that your life is somehow smaller than the life you know is possible for you.

And eventually, you start wondering:

**“What's wrong with me?”**

But what if nothing is wrong with you?

What if your stuckness has a history?

What if some part of you learned that moving forward wasn't safe?

Or that getting out wasn't possible?

In this series, we're exploring two **Gateway Wounds** that can profoundly shape the way we move — or don't move — through life:

**The Wound of Incapacitation.**
When you want to move, but something inside you says *I can't.*

**The Wound of Entrapment.**
When you try to move, but somehow you keep finding yourself pulled back into the same place.

These wounds can be so deeply embedded that we mistake their consequences for personality.

We call ourselves lazy.

Weak.

Unmotivated.

Indecisive.

Self-sabotaging.

But perhaps the more important question is:

**What happened that made being stuck necessary?**

Because when you understand *why* you're stuck, you can stop fighting yourself long enough to understand what needs to change.

And that is where the journey forward actually begins.

**You are not necessarily failing at life.
You may be responding to something your system learned a very long time ago.**

Let's explore the two Gateway Wounds.

I Don’t Remember the Room. I Remember the Kindness.

In 2000, I was backpacking through Europe with far more luggage than any sensible person should have been carrying.

In Lisbon, I ended up in a little pension where the manager discovered I'd been given a room much more expensive than I needed.

What happened next was something I could never have planned for.

She moved me into a smaller room. Then she and her brother invited a complete stranger into their home for Algerian food, stories and laughter.

And the next morning, when they realised I was worried about getting my five bags back down five flights of stairs, her brother took the morning off work to help me.He lost half a day's pay.

For someone he'd known for one evening.

Twenty-six years later, I don't remember the room.

I don't remember what I paid.

But I remember them.

Some journeys give us places.

Some give us stories.

And every once in a while, they give us people who quietly remind us what human kindness looks like.

This is another story from The Path Before the Path.

“Don’t worry, sister. I’ve got this.”

I was 30 years old, alone in Valencia, Spain.

I had spent the entire day looking for somewhere to sleep. I hadn’t eaten. I was exhausted, frightened, and honestly didn’t know what I was going to do.

Then I noticed a stranger.

Something inside me whispered, “Go and speak to him.”

His name was Ricky Ricardo.

He listened to my story, smiled, and said those words:

“Don’t worry, sister. I’ve got this.”

He bought me breakfast.
He helped me change my money.
And he made sure I got safely onto a train.

Twenty-six years later, I still remember his name.

Not because he was extraordinary in some grand, dramatic way.

But because, at a moment when I was vulnerable and alone, a stranger chose to be kind.

Sometimes one act of kindness stays with you forever.

This is one of the stories from the path before the path.

When a family, community, institution or society has a problem it does not want to confront, responsibility can be displaced onto someone who is easier to punish than the people or structures actually producing the harm.
And the safest target is often the person who is not allowed to fight back.

A child.
A woman.
An LGBTQ person.
A marginalized person.
A poor person.
A traumatized person.
A dissenter.
An outsider.
Even animals and the natural world.

This does not mean they are unable to resist. It means that when they do resist, their resistance itself may be punished.

They may be silenced, discredited, further marginalized, criminalized, subjected to terror campaigns, or portrayed as dangerous precisely because they refused to quietly carry the blame assigned to them.

And that is an important part of scapegoating:

First you remove or constrain someone's power. Then you punish them for trying to reclaim it.

Have you ever stayed silent—not because you agreed, but because you were afraid of what would happen if you spoke?

We often imagine terror as something dramatic: violence, threats, punishment or physical intimidation.

But fear doesn't always announce itself loudly.

Sometimes it's covert.

Fear of rejection.

Fear of humiliation.

Fear of losing your job.

Fear of being ostracized.

Fear of being called difficult, unstable, selfish or troublesome.

Fear of losing love, belonging, security or reputation.

Eventually, nobody even needs to silence you.

**You learn to silence yourself.**

That is why I include **Terror Campaigns—both overt and covert—as a tactic of systemic coercive control.**

Overt terror tells you:

**"There will be consequences if you resist."**

Covert terror teaches you:

**"It isn't safe to resist in the first place."**

And once fear becomes internalized, control no longer requires constant enforcement.

The frightened person begins policing themselves.

This is **The Poison Pillar™ — Part 4: Terror Campaigns.**

Because sometimes the most powerful prison isn't the one somebody locks around you.

**It's the one fear teaches you to build inside yourself.**

**What If Your Worth Was Never Meant to Be Earned?**

**The Poison Pillar™ – Part 3: Desacralization of Life**

---

Have you ever felt like your worth depended on how much you achieved...

How productive you were...

How much you earned...

Or how useful you were to other people?

What if that's not simply the pressure of modern life?

What if it's one of the most powerful forms of systemic coercive control?

I call it **Desacralization of Life**.

It's the gradual teaching that life has value only when it is useful.

People become resources.

Nature becomes a resource.

Animals become products.

Even our own bodies become projects to perfect instead of living beings to honour.

When life loses its inherent sacredness, exploitation becomes easier to justify.

But your worth was never meant to be something you had to earn.

It exists because you exist.

This is **The Poison Pillar™ – Part 3: Desacralization of Life.**

Because healing begins the moment we remember that life is not valuable because of what it produces.

Life is valuable because it is life.

Have you ever caught yourself thinking...

"I shouldn't feel this."

"I'm too sensitive."

"I just need to control my emotions."

What if those thoughts aren't the truth?

What if they're the result of Reality Distortion—one of the most normalized forms of systemic coercive control?

From childhood, many of us are taught to distrust our emotions instead of understanding them.

We're told that anger is bad.
Fear is weakness.
Sadness should be hidden.

But emotions are not the enemy.

They are messengers.
They tell us that something important needs our attention.

The problem isn't feeling an emotion.

The problem is what we choose to do with it.

When we stop trusting our emotions, we slowly stop trusting ourselves.

And when we stop trusting ourselves, we become much easier to control.

This is The Poison Pillar™ – Part 2: Reality Distortion.

Because freedom doesn't begin by suppressing your emotions.

It begins by understanding what they're trying to tell you.

I travelled to Catemaco, Mexico—a town famous for witchcraft—expecting to find ancient magic.

Instead, I found it in the most unexpected place.

A government school with very few resources.
Children who had survived more than most adults ever should.
And some of the most curious, intelligent and resilient young minds I have ever met.

I arrived believing I was there to teach.

I left knowing they had been my teachers.

Sometimes the greatest lessons don't come from shamans, rituals or sacred places.

Sometimes they arrive through ordinary people who quietly refuse to let life break their spirit.
