Protecting your little one starts with what you eat ! During pregnancy, steer clear of some foods to ensure a healthy journey for you and your baby.

Raw, undercooked foods can pose serious risks to the mother and the developing baby. When food is not cooked properly, it many contain bacteria or parasites that cause food borne infections like listeriosis, toxoplasmosis and salmonellosis 🦠

These infections have been linked to various outcomes including miscarriages, premature birth, stillbirth, etc

⭐️ The most common foods which can pose a risk are raw or undercooked eggs, unpasteurised dairy, undercooked meat, raw, pre made salads.

Though these foods are extremely healthy and needed during pregnancy, make sure the eggs, meat and fish are cooked thoroughly.

⭐️ Opt for pasteurised dairy products only. Pick fresh produce, wash and peel them well while preparing your salads. Or simple have them as a stir fry.

Let’s be real : pregnancy can be a roller coaster of bodily changes. Today, let’s talk about a not-so-pleasant aspect of pregnancy: constipation 💩

It’s uncomfortable and can be frustrating, but there are various ways in which you can manage it. From eating fiber-rich foods to staying hydrated, there are steps you can take to help get things moving again.

One such simple remedy which can give you relief is adding black raisins. Make sure you include 7-8 soaked black raisins every morning and that can surely work wonders !

Are you restricting yourself from eating your favourite food because you’re worried about calories ? STOP right now 🛑

👉 Reject that ‘diet’ mentality. It just offers a false hope of losing weight quickly, easily. In the long run, it ain’t helping you.

👉 Make peace with food. Call a truce. If you tell yourself that you can’t or shouldn’t have a particular food, it can lead to intense feelings of deprivation, that builds into uncontrollable cravings, and often into bingeing.

👉 Take cues from your body and understand when you’re full. Being mindful of what you eat is better that restricting yourself any day.

You will not suddenly become unhealthy with one snack, one meal, or one day of eating. It’s what you eat consistently over time that matters. Progress, not perfection, is what counts. So 🍪

‘I’m tired of dieting’ - this is the most common notion shared by people trying to achieve their health goals.

My two cents on this, you’ve got it completely wrong.

👉 The concept of ‘dieting’ has been strongly ingrained in us through media, celebrities and influencers. It about following a strict regimen which is not flexible, is impossible to keep up with and we end up failing at it.

STOP DIETING. The goal is to understand your body, identifying the areas that need improvement and working on it holistically. Simply restricting a couple of food items ain’t helping you.

⭐️ Think long- term. Make sustainable, logical changes in your daily routine which includes your food intake, water intake, sleep cycle and exercise regimen. No quick fix diet will offer long term results.

We are all looking out for foods that are healthy. However, it is not just what you eat, but how you eat that also matters. We have this habit of eating while watching television or binging on our favourite web series while having dinner or scrolling through our phone while eating. This makes eating a mundane job. Mindful eating is a concept which encourages us to eat without distractions. Eating slowly, listening to the hunger cues and eating only until you are full. Noticing the colours, textures on your plate and enjoying the flavours. This helps in portion control and also makes you truly enjoy the food you eat!

Working from home has made us all binge-eaters. While most of us manage to eat healthy in larger meals like lunch and dinner, it's the snacks we eat which are often overlooked. And they mostly tend to be on the unhealthier side. The best option is to keep some healthy snacking options ready for those mid-evening hunger pangs. Keep a bowl of mixed unsalted nuts and seeds, or a jar of trail mix, some roasted soy nuts, makhana, etc handy. So there'll be no more unhealthy snacking !

Make the most of the quarantine phase by indulging in some self care. The simplest and the most ignored way of taking care of your body is by hydrating it. And what better than water to do it. Start your day with a warm glass full of water. It'll help improve your gut health and also work wonders for your skin. Keep a bottle of water at your desk while working from home currently. It'll act as a simple reminder. .
