βοΈHatha and Ashtanga are two traditional styles of yoga β but they approach practice in different ways.
β¨Hatha Yoga is generally slower and more instructional.
Each posture is held for several breaths, with attention to alignment, breath, and awareness. Itβs often used to build a strong foundation for beginners and to develop a mindful, balanced practice.
β¨Ashtanga Yoga, on the other hand, follows a dynamic, fixed sequence of postures connected through breath and movement (vinyasa). The practice is physically demanding, rhythmic, and designed to build heat, strength, and endurance.
In this reel you can see the difference in Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar):
β’ Hatha Sun Salutation β slower pace, pauses between poses, focus on technique and breath.
β’ Ashtanga Sun Salutation β continuous flow, synchronized breath (ujjayi), more dynamic transitions like Chaturanga β Upward Dog β Downward Dog.
Both styles come from the same yogic roots β but offer very different experiences on the mat.
