Seven chakras. Seven bija mantras. One journey inward. 🕉️

In the yogic tradition, bija means seed — a sound carrying a particular vibrational quality.

From LAM at Mooladhara to OM at Ajna, these traditional sounds are used as part of mantra and chakra practices to develop awareness of the inner experience.

🔴 LAM — Mooladhara
🟠 VAM — Swadhisthana
🟡 RAM — Manipura
🟢 YAM — Anahata
🔵 HAM — Vishuddhi
🟣 OM — Ajna
🟣 OM / silence — Sahasrara

Rather than simply listening to the sounds, take a moment to sit, breathe, listen and experience.

In the teachings of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, mantra is understood not merely as a word, but as sound and vibration that can influence different levels of consciousness.

🎧 Listen to the complete sequence in this reel — from LAM to OM.

Close your eyes.
Breathe naturally.
Let the sound become an experience.

**वैराग्यम् परमं सुखम् 🕊️**
*Vairāgyam Paramam Sukham*
**Detachment is the ultimate happiness.**

We often think happiness comes from having more —
more love, more success, more possessions, more control.

But perhaps true peace begins when we stop needing everything to be *ours*.

**Vairāgya** is not running away from life.
It is learning to live fully without being bound by what comes and goes.

When attachment loosens,
the mind becomes lighter.
When expectations fade,
peace begins to grow. 🌿

**Let go. Not because you don’t care,
but because you choose inner freedom.**

Save this for the days when you need a reminder. 🤍
Share it with someone who is learning to let go.

🌿 What if your hands could become part of your yoga practice?

In traditional yoga, the five fingers are connected with the five elements of nature — Air, Space, Earth, Fire, and Water.

Different finger arrangements create different mudras, commonly practiced during meditation, pranayama, and yoga.

🌬️ Vayu | Air
Index finger folds to the base of the thumb; the thumb gently presses the first knuckle.

✨ Akash | Space
Middle fingertip meets the thumb; the other three fingers stay extended.

🌍 Prithivi | Earth
Ring fingertip meets the thumb; the other three fingers stay extended.

🔥 Agni / Surya | Fire
Ring finger folds toward the palm and is gently pressed by the thumb.

💧 Varun | Water
Little fingertip meets the thumb; the other three fingers stay extended.

Each mudra has its own traditional purpose and can be practiced simply, almost anywhere.

No equipment. No complicated setup. Just your hands, your breath, and a few mindful minutes. 🧘

Yoga wasn’t always a workout. 🧘

Today, many people first discover Yoga through a yoga mat, a sequence of postures, or a fitness class.

But the story of Yoga is much older — and much more diverse.

From the ancient cultures of India, Yoga developed through centuries of discipline, self-inquiry, meditation, philosophy and spiritual practice.

The Upanishads turned attention inward.
The Bhagavad Gita presented Yoga through different paths of action, knowledge, devotion and meditation.
Patanjali later systematized an existing body of yogic thought and practice through the Yoga Sutras.
Centuries later, Hatha and Ta***ic traditions gave greater importance to the body, breath, prana and subtle energies.

And then Yoga travelled beyond India.

In 1893, Swami Vivekananda’s appearance in Chicago became an important moment in Yoga’s transmission to the West. During the 20th century, Yoga continued to evolve as Indian traditions interacted with modern physical culture, exercise, health and education.

What we call modern Yoga today is therefore not simply the same practice that existed thousands of years ago.

It is a modern expression of a much older and continually evolving tradition.

And perhaps that’s what makes Yoga so remarkable.

The forms have changed.
The practices have expanded.
But the search for greater awareness, understanding and freedom continues.

Yoga Nidra vs Sleep: Can It Replace Sleep or Improve Recovery?

Once you understand this, yoga nidra becomes a far more powerful tool than most people in the West are currently using it as.

Yoga nidra and sleep are not competing with each other. They do completely different jobs. Asking which one is better for rest is like asking whether eating or drinking is more important — you need both.

Sleep restores the body through unconscious biological processes. Yoga nidra works differently. It brings you into a state of conscious rest, where the nervous system settles and deeper layers of tension can begin to release.
In yoga nidra, the body rests while awareness remains. In sleep, awareness is lost.

What Is Sankalpa in Yoga Nidra?

In Yoga Nidra, sankalpa is often translated as intention, resolve, or heartfelt wish. But in Yoga Nidra, it is something more specific and more powerful than simply setting a goal or repeating a positive thought.

Yoga Nidra works with the deeper layers of the mind. When the body is deeply relaxed and the mind becomes quiet, it becomes possible to plant a clear inner resolve at a level deeper than ordinary thinking. This resolve is called sankalpa.

In this article, we will explore what sankalpa really means in the yogic tradition, why it is placed at specific points in the Yoga Nidra practice, how it gradually influences the mind, and how you can choose a sankalpa that is genuine and meaningful for your own life.
