🚨 Is your child’s behaviour becoming difficult to manage? Start by understanding the behaviour—not just stopping it. 🧩
In autism, behaviours such as meltdowns, refusal, screaming, aggression, repetitive behaviours or difficulty with transitions can sometimes communicate an unmet need, difficulty with communication, sensory overload, or difficulty coping with a demand.
That’s why effective behaviour management for autistic children focuses on teaching what to do instead. ❤️
🎯 5 important strategies parents can practice at home:
1️⃣ First–Then — make expectations predictable
2️⃣ Give Choices — offer controlled choices to encourage cooperation
3️⃣ Functional Communication — teach “help,” “break,” “more” and “finished”
4️⃣ Transition Practice — prepare the child before changing activities
5️⃣ Positive Reinforcement — strengthen appropriate behaviour immediately
✨ Don’t just ask, “How do I stop this behaviour?”
Ask, “What is my child trying to communicate, and what skill can I teach instead?”
With structured parent training, occupational therapy, speech therapy and consistent home practice, parents can become an active part of their child’s developmental journey.

🧠 What if the future of speech therapy could begin inside the brain?
Elon Musk’s Neuralink has just shown a remarkable new step in brain-computer interface technology — a person with severe speech impairment was able to produce words through an implanted brain interface by intending the words and thinking them, with AI converting neural signals into speech.
And here’s where it gets REALLY interesting for the autism and speech therapy community 👇
Could this technology eventually help some non-speaking autistic children communicate?
⚠️ Not today. Neuralink is still an investigational technology, and its current speech work is aimed at people with severe speech impairment associated with conditions such as ALS, stroke and spinal cord injury — NOT autism.
But the bigger idea is fascinating:
Brain → Neural signals → AI → Communication
This opens an entirely new conversation about the future of assistive communication, AAC, speech and language development, neurotechnology and communication for people who cannot rely on spoken speech.
At the same time, autism is NOT simply a problem of “the brain not knowing how to speak.” Autism can involve differences in social communication, language development, sensory processing, motor planning and communication preferences, so future technology would need to be studied specifically in autistic populations.
For now, speech therapy, occupational therapy, AAC, parent training and individualized autism intervention remain important tools for supporting communication and functional skills. ❤️
And with AI advancing this quickly, the question isn’t just:
“Can technology make someone speak?”
It may soon become:
“How can technology give every person a way to communicate?” 🧠💬

🧠 PRIMITIVE REFLEXES: THE MOVEMENT PATTERNS EVERY PARENT SHOULD KNOW!
Primitive reflexes are automatic movement responses that play an important role in early motor development. As children grow, these reflexes typically become integrated as voluntary motor control develops.
In this reel, we cover 👇
🔹 Moro / Startle Reflex
🔹 ATNR – Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
🔹 STNR – Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
🔹 TLR – Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex
🔹 Spinal Galant Reflex
🔹 Palmar Grasp Reflex
🔹 Plantar Grasp Reflex
🔹 Rooting Reflex
🔹 Sucking Reflex
🔹 Babinski Reflex
🔹 Landau Reflex
Why do Occupational Therapists look at primitive reflexes?
Because reflex assessment can be one part of understanding a child’s motor development, posture, balance, coordination, sensory-motor function and functional skills. Persistent or atypical reflex responses should be assessed by a qualified professional rather than assumed from symptoms alone.
👶 Autism | ADHD | Developmental Delay | Sensory Processing | Motor Development
If your child struggles with coordination, posture, balance, attention, handwriting, crawling, sitting tolerance, motor planning or sensory processing, a comprehensive pediatric OT assessment can help identify the areas that need support.

Speech and Language 🧠 Build Memory. Improve Sentence Formation. Strengthen Communication. 🗣️
Speech and language development is not only about learning new words — children also need to remember words, understand their meaning, connect ideas, and use them to form meaningful sentences.
Through structured speech and language therapy activities, children can work on:
✨ Memory and recall skills
✨ Vocabulary development
✨ Sentence formation
✨ Receptive language
✨ Expressive language
✨ Following instructions
✨ WH-question answering
✨ Functional communication
✨ Attention and listening skills
✨ Social communication
For children with autism, speech delay, language delay, developmental delays, or communication difficulties, these skills can be practiced through engaging, structured activities.
💡 Remember → Understand → Connect → Form a Sentence → Communicate
📌 Save this activity for your child’s speech and language practice!

🚨 Could retained primitive reflexes be affecting your child’s movement, coordination or sensory processing?
Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns present during early development. As the nervous system matures, many of these reflexes become integrated into voluntary movement.
In pediatric occupational therapy, reflexes such as ATNR, STNR, Moro, TLR and Palmar reflex may be assessed when a child has difficulties with:
🔹 Motor coordination
🔹 Balance & postural control
🔹 Bilateral coordination
🔹 Fine motor skills
🔹 Gross motor development
🔹 Sensory processing
🔹 Attention & body awareness
🔹 Handwriting & school readiness
🔹 Motor planning
✨ Primitive Reflex Integration + Occupational Therapy can be incorporated into an individualized therapy plan based on the child’s functional needs.
👩‍⚕️ Every child is different. Reflex assessment should be connected to meaningful functional goals—not treated as a standalone explanation for developmental difficulties.
📌 Save this reel if you are a parent of a child with autism, ADHD, developmental delay or sensory processing challenges.

Why does my autistic child keep rubbing or pressing their private parts? 👀
👉 It may NOT be sexual behavior.
For some autistic children, touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the private area can be a form of sensory seeking—especially when they are looking for a particular type of body sensation, regulation, or comfort.
🧠 Instead of simply saying “STOP!”, first understand the sensory need behind the behavior.
Occupational therapy can help identify the child’s sensory triggers and sensory-seeking patterns and teach safer, socially appropriate ways to meet those sensory needs.
⚠️ However, don’t automatically assume every instance is sensory. If the behavior is sudden, excessive, painful, associated with itching/rash, or causing injury, consult a pediatrician to rule out a physical cause.
Autism ≠ sexual behavior. Understanding the sensory need comes first. ❤️
