Celebrate Holi the Healthy Way - An Ayurvedic Perspective “
Holi marks the transition from Shishira (late winter) to Vasanta (spring) - a period described in Ayurveda as Kapha prakopa kala (natural aggravation of Kapha).
As temperature rises, accumulated Kapha begins to liquefy, leading to:
1. Heaviness
2. Allergies & sinus congestion
3. Skin eruptions
4. Digestive sluggishness
So celebrating Holi safely is not just about protecting skin , it is about respecting seasonal physiology too.
🌿 1. Choose Natural Colours
Synthetic colours contain chemicals that irritate Rakta (blood) and Twak (skin).
Opt for herbal colours made from:
• Turmeric 🟡
• Rose petals 🔴
• Beetroot 🔴
• Neem 🟢
• Palash (Tesu) flowers 🟠
These are Pitta-friendly and non-toxic.
🧴 2. Oil Application Before You go to Play Holi
Apply coconut oil (for Pitta) or sesame oil (for Vata/Kapha) over:
• Face
• Arms
• Hair
• Nails
This creates a protective lipid barrier, preventing deep absorption of colours and reducing post-Holi dryness.
💧 3. Support Agni (Digestive Fire)
Heavy sweets + fried snacks during Kapha season can weaken digestion.
Before celebrations:
✅ Drink warm water infused with ginger
✅ Avoid overeating
✅ Prefer light, warm meals
After Holi:
✅Take lukewarm water bath
✅Use gentle herbal ubtan instead of harsh soaps
🌼 4. Protect Respiratory Health
Kapha season + dry colour powders = increased risk of rhinitis and cough.
If prone to sinus issues:
✅Apply a drop of warm sesame oil in nostrils before stepping out
✅ Avoid inhaling dry powders
Holi is meant to increase joy (Harsha) — not toxins or inflammation.
Celebrate with awareness.
Protect your Twak, Agni, and Prana.
Wishing everyone a colourful, conscious, and healthy Holi 🌺 🎉
