जिजीविषामः- हम जीवित रहना चाहेंगे

अवस्थिताः- खड़े हैं
प्रमुखे:- हमारे सामने
धार्तराष्ट्राः- धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र।

हम यह भी नहीं जानते कि इस युद्ध का परिणाम हमारे लिए किस प्रकार से श्रेयस्कर होगा। उन पर विजय पाकर या उनसे पराजित होकर। यद्यपि उन्होंने धृतराष्ट्र का पक्ष लिया है और अब वे युद्धभूमि में हमारे सम्मुख खड़े हैं तथापि उनको मारकर हमारी जीवित रहने की कोई इच्छा नहीं होगी।

We do not even know which result of this war is preferable for us—conquering them or being conquered by them. Even after killing them we will not desire to live. Yet they have taken the side of the sons of Dhritarasthra, and now stand before us on the battlefield.

भोक्तुम:- जीवन का आनंद लेना
भैक्ष्यम् :- भीख मांगकर
अपि:- यहां तक कि
इह लोके:- इस संसार में
हत्वा:- हत्या करना
अर्थ:- लाभ
कामान:- इच्छा करके
तु:- लेकिन
गुरुन् :- श्रेष्ठ वृषभ
इह:- इस संसार में
एव:- निश्चित रूप से
भुंजीय:- आनंद लेना
भोगान:- सुख
रुधिर:- रक्त
प्रदिग्धान:- से दूषित

इस संसार में भीख मांगकर जीवन यापन करना, मेरे इन गुरुओं और गुरुओं की हत्या करके जीवन का आनंद लेने से कहीं बेहतर है। यदि हम उनकी हत्या करेंगे, तो हमारे धन और सुख-सुविधाएं रक्त से दूषित हो जाएंगी।

It would be better to live in this world by begging, than to enjoy life by killing these noble elders, who are my teachers. If we kill them, the wealth and pleasures we enjoy will be tainted with blood.

पूजा-अहौ:- पूजनीय
अरि-सूदन:- शत्रुओं के दमनकर्ता!

अर्जुन ने कहा-हे मधुसूदन! हे शत्रुओं के दमनकर्ता! मैं युद्धभूमि में कैसे भीष्म और द्रोणाचार्य जैसे महापुरुषों पर बाण चला सकता हूँ जो मेरे लिए परम पूजनीय है।

Arjun said: O Madhusudan, how can I shoot arrows in battle on men like Bheeshma and Dronacharya, who are worthy of my worship, O destroyer of enemies?

उपपद्यते:- उपयुक्त
क्षुद्रम्:- तुच्छ
हृदय:- हृदय की
दौर्बल्यम्:- दुर्बलता
त्यक्त्वा:- त्याग कर
उत्तिष्ठ:- खड़ा हो
परम्-तप:- शत्रुओं का दमनकर्ता।

हे पार्थ! अपने भीतर इस प्रकार की नपुंसकता का भाव लाना तुम्हें शोभा नहीं देता। हे शत्रु विजेता! हृदय की तुच्छ दुर्बलता का त्याग करो और युद्ध के लिए तैयार हो जाओ।

O Parth, it does not befit you to yield to this unmanliness. Give up such petty weakness of heart and arise, O vanquisher of enemies.

कश्मलम्:- मोह, अज्ञान
इदम्:- यह
विषमे:- इस संकटकाल में
समुपस्थितम्:- उत्पन्न हुआ
अनार्य:- अशिष्ट जन
जुष्टम्-सद्:- आचरण योग्य
अस्वय॑म्:- उच्च लोकों की ओर न ले जाने वाला अकीर्तिकरम्:- अपयश का कारण
अर्जुन:- अर्जुन।

परमात्मा श्रीकृष्ण ने कहाः मेरे प्रिय अर्जुन! इस संकट की घड़ी में तुम्हारे भीतर यह विमोह कैसे उत्पन्न हुआ? यह सम्माननीय लोगों के अनुकूल नहीं है। इससे उच्च लोकों की प्राप्ति नहीं होती अपितु अपयश प्राप्त होता है।

The Supreme Lord said: My dear Arjun, how has this delusion overcome you in this hour of peril? It is not befitting an honorable person. It leads not to the higher abodes, but to disgrace.

ऐसा कहकर, अर्जुन, शोक से व्याकुल मन वाले होकर, अपने बाणों सहित धनुष को त्यागकर रथ के आसन पर बैठ गए।

Having said this, Arjuna, his mind overwhelmed with grief, abandoned his bow and arrows and sat down on the seat of his chariot.

कुलघ्नानाम्:- अपने परिवार को नष्ट करने वालों का वर्ण-सङ्कर:- अवांछित संतानों के
कारकैः- कारणों से
उत्साद्यन्ते:- नष्ट हो जाते हैं
जाति-धर्माः- सामुदायिक और परिवार कल्याण की योजनाएँ
कुल-धर्माः- पारिवारिक परम्पराएँ
च:- भी
शाश्वता:- सनातन

अपने दुष्कर्मों से कुल परम्परा का विनाश करने वाले दुराचारियों के कारण समाज में अवांछित सन्तानों की वृद्धि होती है और विविध प्रकार की सामुदायिक और कुटुंब तथा पारिवारिक कल्याण की गतिविधियों का भी विनाश हो जाता है।

Through the evil deeds of those who destroy the family tradition and thus give rise to unwanted progeny, a variety of social and family welfare activities are ruined.
