A magazine cover is a wonderful moment.

But it is also a reminder.

For me, the boundaries are less important than the question:

Can we do better for the child in front of us?

That question keeps me learning, researching, teaching and evolving.

The cover is the photograph.

The journey continues.

Today feels like one of those days when you pause for a moment.

I am honoured to be featured on the cover of CEO India Magazine, with a feature titled:

“The Surgeon Who Keeps Asking Why.”

The cover calls me “A Surgeon Without Boundaries.”

Both phrases made me think.

Because my journey has never really been about collecting titles.

It has been about following questions.

A question in the operating room can become a research project.

A research project can change how we teach.

Teaching can make a difficult concept understandable.

Technology can open another possibility.

Music can teach you about rhythm, discipline and listening.

And sometimes, a conversation with a worried parent can teach you something no textbook ever could.

But beneath all of those things is something very simple.

A child.

That is the person who ultimately matters.

So I am grateful for the cover.

Grateful for the recognition.

But even more grateful for the responsibility it represents.

Because tomorrow, the magazine will still be on the shelf.

And I will be back in the hospital.

Back in the classroom.

Back at the desk.

Back to learning.

Back to asking questions.

Back to asking why.

And hopefully finding one more way to do things a little better.

The hospital can be a scary place for little ones, so over the years, I’ve had to become fluent in a very specific second language: Toddler! 👶💬

A lot of paediatric surgery is just good marketing. Whether we’re making a quick call to Batman on the “Heartbeat Telephone” 🩺, getting ready for blast-off with our “Spaceship Mask” 🚀, or explaining laparoscopy as “Peek-a-boo surgery” 🔑, changing the words we use makes all the difference in easing their fears. Whatever gets them giggling instead of crying!

Post-Op Update: The surgery was a complete success, but the real work begins now—fulfilling the pre-op negotiations! 😂📝

Charting the most important details: patient is proudly displaying their bravery certificate and demanding an immediate restock of chocolate ice cream as per strict surgical protocol. Seeing these brave little ones smiling and enjoying their well-deserved treats after surgery is easily the best part of my job! 🩺✨

There is an interesting paradox in Indian healthcare.

We have hospitals with extraordinary technology, sophisticated ICUs and advanced operating rooms.

Yet when it comes to children, we sometimes expect them to simply fit into systems designed primarily for adults.

A child undergoing surgery needs more than a surgeon.

They need the right anaesthesia expertise.
The right instruments.
The right ICU.
The right nursing team.
The right protocols.
The right postoperative environment.

Paediatric surgery is an ecosystem.

And yes, hospitals must think about sustainability.

But perhaps the conversation should move beyond:

“How many cases will this department generate?”

to:

“What level of paediatric care do we want our hospital to be capable of providing?”

Because sometimes the most important hospital capability is not the one with the highest volume.

It is the one that ensures that when a child needs complex care, the family doesn’t have to leave the city looking for it.

Build the ecosystem. Build the expertise. Build the trust.

The child comes first—but good healthcare systems must also be designed to sustain themselves.

That is where clinical excellence and hospital strategy should meet.

They never show the real tough decisions on medical dramas... like choosing between the T-Rex or SpongeBob scrub cap! 😂🦖🧽
While the dramatic slow-mo and intense stares look great on TV, the reality of being a paediatric surgeon is a lot more colorful. It’s all about stocking up on bravery stickers, humming cartoon theme songs, and doing whatever it takes to make my little patients feel safe and bring a smile to their faces before we head into the OR. 🩺✨

You lean in to check their ears, expecting a high-five, and instead, you get a peer review of your skincare routine. “Why do you look so tired, Doc?” There is absolutely no medical comeback to that. You just have to sit there, accept the emotional damage, and finish the exam while reevaluating all your life choices. 😅 Send help (and maybe some under-eye cream)!

Some journeys are measured in titles and milestones.
Others are measured in the lives touched along the way.

I’m honoured to have my journey featured at the Annual Corporate Business Exhibition 2026 and Growth Story Summit & Awards, presented by TheCconnects Magazine, as part of its November 2026 Business Magazine Edition.

For me, growth in medicine has never been simply about adding another qualification, adopting another technology, or performing another complex operation.

It has been about continuously asking a simple question:

How can I do better for the child in front of me?

My journey as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon & Urologist, Robotic & Minimal Access Paediatric Surgeon, Assistant Professor, researcher and author has evolved at the intersection of surgery, education, technology and human connection.

At Dhiraj Hospital & Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, Vadodara, I have had the opportunity to work across paediatric urology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, complex reconstruction, teaching and research. Each role has taught me something different—and each has reinforced the same principle: precision matters, but the person behind the procedure matters even more.

Writing Understanding Paediatric Urology: A Parent’s Guide came from that same belief. Families should not have to navigate complicated medical terminology when they are already navigating fear and uncertainty.

My interest in responsible AI and emerging technologies comes from a similar place. Technology should not replace the human element of medicine. It should strengthen our ability to listen, understand, decide and care.

My philosophy remains simple:

“Technology can make surgery more precise. Compassion makes it meaningful.”

I’m grateful to TheCconnects for recognising this journey and, more importantly, for creating a platform where stories of growth can inspire conversations about what comes next.
