Most people think a medi-facial is just a premium version of a salon facial.
As a dermatologist, that’s not how I look at it.
When someone comes in for dull skin, acne, pigmentation, or frequent breakouts, my first question isn’t, “Which facial should we do?”
It’s, “Why is the skin behaving this way?”
That’s where the difference starts.
A salon facial is designed to improve how the skin looks temporarily.
A medi-facial is designed around why the skin is struggling in the first place.
For example:
If your skin is oily and acne-prone, the goal may be reducing oil production and unclogging pores.
If your concern is pigmentation, the focus may be controlled exfoliation and cell turnover.
If your skin barrier is damaged, the priority becomes calming inflammation and restoring hydration.
Three different problems.
Three completely different treatment approaches.
This is why a medi-facial isn’t a fixed procedure.
It’s customized based on skin type, sensitivity, ongoing treatments, and the underlying diagnosis.
In dermatology, the most important question is rarely “What treatment should I do?”
It’s “What exactly am I treating?”
Because when the diagnosis changes, the treatment should change too.
That’s the difference between a facial designed for an occasion and a treatment designed for a skin concern.
