Confessions of a former sugar addict 🙋‍♀️🍭

It's been more than 4 weeks of the 30-day no sugar challenge.

30 days ago, I decided to stop letting sugar control me.

Was it easy? Not at all.

Apart from the physical changes, the biggest win has been the boost in my self-confidence.

Special occasions par thoda sweet chalta hai, but the mindless sweet craving is officially over. 🙅‍♀️

Now, my whole family is on the high-protein, high-fibre track with me.

💪 The takeaway: Don't quit when it gets hard. You’ve got this.

If you’ve been looking for a sign to start your own challenge, this is it. ✨

30 days. No sugar. Complete. ✅

I won't pretend it was easy. It wasn't.

But here is what each week actually felt like

Week 1 — Sugar was the enemy
Week 2 — Sugar was the temptation
Week 3 — Sugar was just a habit I was breaking
Week 4 — Sugar is just... a thing that exists 🙂

And here is what changed

My skin started glowing.
Digestion improved.
Energy became steadier.
Bloating reduced.
My teammates even noticed my focus had improved.

Oh, and 1 inch down. I'll take that. 📏

But the biggest change isn't physical.

My relationship with food has changed.

Sweets used to be my comfort. My crutch, honestly. Now I look at them like any other food item. No guilt. No FOMO.

Did I lose weight? Not much.

But that was never the goal.

The goal was to stop letting sugar control me. And I did that.

The real lessons from this journey are harder to put into words.

I'm saving those for next week.

Follow so you don't miss it. 🏁

3 weeks of my 30-day no-sugar challenge. Done.

And honestly, this week felt different from the start.

The more I say no to sugar, the easier it gets to keep going.

What my mornings look like now

✦ No heaviness
✦ No grogginess
✦ No 3pm cravings

Just steady, clean energy. All day.

My friend looked at me yesterday and said "you're GLOWING."

I laughed it off.

Then checked the mirror 47 times. 😂

The bloating that used to make me uncomfortable? Gone.
My face looks less puffy in photos.
Acne is still there but it's shrinking.

Something is genuinely changing from the inside.

But I want to be honest about day 17.

I felt dizzy that evening. Panicked. And without thinking, I ate a toffee.

I don't regret it. I understand it now.

I had barely eaten lunch, skipped my afternoon snack because of back-to-back meetings, and hadn't had enough water all day. My body simply ran out of fuel.

When you eat sugar regularly, your body gets used to quick, easy energy. Once you stop, your metabolism has to rely on proper meals again. So skipping meals hits harder now. There's no sugar backup to fall back on.

One toffee on day 17 doesn't erase 21 good days. It taught me something those 21 days couldn't.

My fuel strategy now

Protein + fibre + healthy fats in every meal. Dal with veggies. Nuts with fruit. When I stopped eating carbs alone, the crashes stopped too.

What's keeping me consistent

✓ Prepping meals every Sunday
✓ Roasted makhana everywhere, car, purse, desk
✓ Alarms set to eat every 3 to 4 hours
✓ Calling my nutritionist when in doubt
✓ Reminding myself that 21 good days outweigh 1 toffee

7 days left.

I've come too far to stop now. See you at the finish line. 🏁

Week 2 of my 30-day no-sugar challenge — and I can feel the difference.

Sharper in meetings.
More energy through the day.
No more 3pm crashes.

This isn't just a diet change. Something deeper is happening.

Week 2 update —

Weight → barely moved (yet)
Inches → down 0.7 📏

And before anyone asks —

"Gauri, sirf inches kam hue, weight kyun nahi?"

I asked myself the same thing, honestly.

When you've been eating added sugar for years, your body is storing way more than just fat.

Sugar raises your blood sugar fast, your body releases insulin to manage it, and that insulin tells your kidneys to hold onto salt. Which means your body holds onto water too.

Cut the sugar — and that water starts flushing out.
Bloating reduces. Inches drop.
Fat loss comes after. Your body has to reset first.

That 0.7 inch? That's my body finally letting go.

What's keeping me on track:

✓ Reading every food label, no exceptions
✓ Meal prepping so hunger never makes my decisions
✓ Fruits and nuts always within reach
✓ Drinking more water than I ever thought I needed
✓ 30 minutes of walking every morning — non-negotiable

Two weeks down. Two to go.

Week 3, I'm ready for you. 🚀

Week 1 = DONE. 🎉

My browser history is just "does ___ have sugar?" now and I have zero regrets 😂

Here's what actually changed in 7 days:

✅ Steady energy all day
✅ Mood swings? Way down
✅ Sleeping like a baby 🌙
✅ That 3pm crash? GONE (this one's MASSIVE for me)

Oh, and I became that person who reads every single food label 👀

Turns out sugar is sneaky. It's hiding under names like:
→ Maltose
→ Dextrose
→ Corn syrup
→ Fruit concentrate
→ High fructose corn syrup
→ Glucose syrup
→ Maltodextrin
→ Agave nectar

Spotted any of these lately? Yeah. It's everywhere.

Now the nerdy part 🧠

After one week with no sugar spikes, my insulin sensitivity is already improving — meaning my body is getting better at managing blood sugar on its own. That's the science behind the steady energy and deeper sleep.

My brain is also slowly switching to burning fat for fuel instead of screaming for sugar every few hours. Goodbye, afternoon sluggishness. Hello, new me.

1 week down. 3 to go. 💪
The struggle is real — but so is the progress.

Drop a 🍬 below if you've been shocked by a "hidden sugar" ingredient, and tell me what you found!

Day 4 without sugar… and my body is NOT happy. 🤯

Headaches. Cravings. Zero focus.

Turns out sugar withdrawal is real.

Current status:
🤕 Headaches
😵‍💫 Intense cravings
😴 Feeling tired and restless
🧠 Can't focus
🌙 Disturbed sleep

This weekend tested me hard.

Temptations everywhere — especially at work.

But here’s what’s actually happening:

My body was used to quick sugar hits for instant energy.

When you suddenly cut that off, your body panics.

That’s why the headaches, fatigue, and cravings show up.

But there’s good news.

My body is now learning to burn stored fat for energy instead of depending on sugar spikes.

Once that adaptation happens, energy levels should become more stable without crashes.

So how did I survive the weekend?

Saturday

Breakfast
Besan chilla + green chutney + sugar-free chai

Lunch
Rajma chawal + raita + salad

Snack
Roasted makhana, chana, peanuts

Dinner
Vegetable khichdi

Also avoided brunch invites where desserts were guaranteed.

Sunday survival strategy

✔ Made a grocery list before going
✔ Shopped on a full stomach
✔ Skipped the biscuit/snack aisle
✔ Bought frozen fruit to make homemade “ice cream”

For sweet cravings

• Date & nut energy balls (dates + almonds + coconut)
• Fennel water in the morning
• Cinnamon water at night (Ceylon cinnamon tastes milder)
• Called a friend instead of stress-eating
• 20-minute walk to distract myself

What I'm eating to manage cravings

🍎 Fruits: apple, papaya, pear, oranges
🌰 Dry fruits: 2–3 khajur or anjeer
🥚 Proteins: paneer, dal, rajma, eggs, hung curd
🥜 Healthy fats: soaked almonds, walnuts, ghee

And I’m keeping myself busy with work, meal prep, cleaning, and organising.

The real trick is planning ahead so you’re not hungry in front of a sweet shop.

It’s tough… but I’m not giving up.

Who else is fighting sugar cravings this weekend?

The wake-up call I needed 😳

As a certified sweet-paglu with PCOS, I've been struggling with weight gain, dull skin, acne, and brain fog. Today, my nutritionist dropped a truth bomb that I couldn't ignore.

WHO says we should keep daily sugar intake under 25-50 grams.

And I was eating 81 grams of sugar in a day!

That’s nearly DOUBLE the WHO limit and roughly 20 teaspoons of hidden sugar in things I thought were "normal."

So, I’m doing the one thing that scares me the most: The 30-Day No Sugar Challenge.

🚫 No cheeni wali chai

🚫 No biscuits/bread

🚫 No chocolates or pastries

🚫 No added sugar

Zero. Nada. None.

I am nervous, but I’m ready to take on this challenge.

Will you join me on my journey? Comment "READY" if you want to cut down on sugar with me! 👇

About THAT viral video… 🎯

Yes, the tug-of-war at Rajasthan’s camel festival was surprising.

But it didn’t show the full picture.

What did it do?

It started a much-needed conversation about Indian women’s strength. 💪

Your grandmother worked harder than most athletes.
Your mother still does.

But strength ≠ living in survival mode.

Carrying groceries 🛒
Cooking for hours 🍳
Cleaning every day 🧹

These activities build endurance — but not the kind of strength that protects your bones at 50 or saves you from “sudden” joint pain at 40.

After age 30, we naturally lose muscle mass (sarcopenia).

Without proper strength training and enough protein, the body slowly pays the price.

We’ve normalised women’s strength being invisible, uncelebrated, and sacrificed.

But you deserve better.

Your body deserves the same care you give everyone else. ❤️

Apne liye bhi apna dhyan rakho.

So what’s really stopping you?

"Roti se weight badhta hai.” ❌

But here’s the truth most people don’t talk about…

👉 1 roti = just 92 calories

👉 With ghee? Around 137 calories

👉 Even 2 rotis are under 300 calories

So why does weight gain happen?

Usually because of what you eat with your roti:

• Oily sabzis

• Only dal and nothing else

• No vegetables or protein

That’s the real problem.

You can’t eat 4 rotis with oily curry and expect weight loss.

But you can enjoy 2–3 rotis, pair them smartly, and still lose weight ✅

The simple formula 👇

Roti + lean protein + vegetables + light cooking = weight loss-friendly diet.

Try these smart combinations:

2 rotis + chicken curry (150 g) = 344 calories
2 rotis + bharli vangi (150 g) = 344 calories
2 rotis + egg bhurji (150 g) = 366 calories
2 rotis + aloo gobi matar (150 g) = 338 calories
2 rotis + sarson ka saag (200 g) = 293 calories
2 rotis + avial (150 g) = 298 calories

No need to go keto.

No need to quit your favourite foods.

Just eat mindfully and pair your meals smartly ✨

Save this for later 📌 and share it with someone who loves roti!

Cortisol helps you wake up, stay alert, and respond to life.

But when stress becomes constant - late nights, skipped meals, endless scrolling - your body never gets the signal to relax.

Over time, this affects how you sleep, eat, and store fat.

The goal isn’t a stress-free life.

It’s creating daily signals of safety for your mind and body.

Start small:

🛏️ Prioritise 7–8 hours of sleep.
🚶‍♀️ Move gently every day.
🥗 Eat regular, nourishing meals.
📵 Ease up on caffeine and late-night screens.
🧘‍♂️ Try meditation, yoga, or journaling.

Consistency, not perfection, is what transforms the body.
