🚰 WASH YOUR FOOD — AND WASH IT RIGHT! 🍎🥦

🍏 HOW TO REDUCE PESTICIDE RESIDUES ON FRUITS & VEGETABLES 🍎

Pesticide residues may remain on the surface of fruits and vegetables. Proper washing can reduce many surface residues, although no home-washing method can guarantee complete removal.

🔹 1️⃣ RUNNING WATER — THE FIRST STEP 💧
Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly under clean, running water.
Rub the surface gently with your hands.

🥕 For firm produce, a clean vegetable brush can help remove dirt and surface residues.

🔹 2️⃣ BAKING SODA SOAK 🥄
A baking-soda solution may help remove certain surface pesticide residues.

👉 Mix about 1 teaspoon baking soda in 500 mL of water.
👉 Soak for around 10–15 minutes.
👉 Rinse thoroughly with clean running water.

🔹 3️⃣ PEELING 🍊🥒
Peeling can reduce residues present on the outer surface.

⚠️ But remember: peeling may also remove fibre, vitamins and beneficial phytochemicals concentrated in the skin.

🔹 4️⃣ SALT-WATER WASH 🧂💧
A mild salt-water wash may help remove some surface contaminants.

👉 Always rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards.

🔹 5️⃣ VINEGAR? 🍶
Vinegar solutions can help with some microorganisms and dirt, but they should not be promoted as a guaranteed pesticide-removal method.

👉 If used, rinse the produce thoroughly with clean water afterwards.

🔹 6️⃣ WARM WATER / COOKING ♨️
Heat and cooking can reduce some pesticide residues, but not all pesticides are removed by heat.

👉 For vegetables that are normally cooked, thorough cooking is preferable to relying on hot-water washing alone.

🔹 7️⃣ BLANCHING 🥬
Briefly blanching vegetables in boiling water may reduce some surface residues.

⚠️ It can also cause loss of certain water-soluble nutrients.

🔹 8️⃣ LEAFY VEGETABLES 🌿
Separate the leaves, discard damaged or outer leaves, and wash thoroughly under running water.

👉 The most important step is thorough physical washing, not adding multiple ingredients to the water.

---

⚠️ IMPORTANT

❌ Do NOT use dishwashing liquid, detergent, bleach or household disinfectants to wash fruits and vegetables.

❌ Don't assume that vinegar, turmeric, salt or baking soda can completely eliminate pesticides.

✅ Wash thoroughly.
✅ Rub the surface.
✅ Peel when appropriate.
✅ Cook vegetables properly.
✅ Choose a varied diet and wash produce consistently.

🌱 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Long-term exposure to certain pesticides has been associated in research with various health concerns, including effects on the nervous, reproductive, respiratory and endocrine systems.

However, the actual risk depends on the pesticide, dose, duration and route of exposure.

So the message is not “fear your food.”

It is:

🌿 REDUCE UNNECESSARY EXPOSURE — WASH YOUR FOOD PROPERLY.

🚰 Clean Food. Clean Habits. Better Health.

Issued in Public Interest by
🏥

🚰🍎 WASH YOUR FOOD — AND WASH IT RIGHT! 🥦🌿

We can’t see pesticide residues… but we can reduce unnecessary exposure with simple habits. 👇

💧 Wash thoroughly under running water
👐 Rub the surface well
🥕 Brush firm produce when needed
🍎 Peel when appropriate
♨️ Cook vegetables properly
🌿 Handle leafy vegetables carefully

⚠️ Don’t use detergents, bleach or household disinfectants on food.

Remember: No home-washing method guarantees complete pesticide removal. The goal is simple — reduce exposure and make safe food habits a routine. 🌱

✅ TESTAMENTS FOR A STRESS-FREE PRIVATE PRACTICE ✳️

By Dr iFTHi
📞 +91 98944 87919

⏰ 1. RESPECT YOUR TIME

👉 Fix your clinic timings.
☝ Go to the clinic at the specified time — whether patients are present or not.
👍 When you respect your time, patients learn to respect it too.
👆 Fix a definite time to START and STOP your work.
👌 Your timing should suit you and the majority of your patients — not necessarily everyone.
👎 You cannot please everybody, every time.

📱 2. PROTECT YOUR MOBILE NUMBER

👎 Do not freely share your personal mobile number with everyone.
☝ Your mobile is primarily for your convenience and communication, not for 24×7 availability to everyone.
👌 Set reasonable boundaries for calls and messages.

🤝 3. DELEGATE

👉 Do not do everything yourself.
☝ Give your staff responsibility + limited decision-making authority.
Examples:
• 💧 Arranging a water tank when required
• 🔧 Getting minor maintenance work done
• 🧾 Handling routine administrative matters
• 💰 Giving a small authorised concession, e.g. 5% or less

👌 This prevents unnecessary interruptions for every small matter.

❤️ 4. DO THE WORK YOU ENJOY

👉 Focus on the type of clinical work you genuinely enjoy.
👊 For complicated cases, share the responsibility.
🤝 Discuss with a trusted colleague or friend.
☝ Call the appropriate specialist when required.
👌 Better expertise = better patient care + less stress for you.

📊 5. REMEMBER THE 80:20 RULE

👍 In many practices, roughly 80% of the income may come from 20% of routine work.
👎 The remaining income may require disproportionate time, energy and resources.

👉 You do not have to handle every rare or complicated case yourself.
👌 Refer cases when appropriate.
☝ Your time and mental energy also have value.

🏥 6. DON'T MAKE THE HOSPITAL YOUR HOME

👎 Avoid living inside the hospital or extremely close to it if it encourages constant interruptions.
👉 Patients or relatives may expect you to be available at odd hours — simply because you are nearby.
👌 Remember: being accessible does not mean being available 24×7.

📋 7. HAVE CLEAR SOPs

✌️ Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for your hospital.

Define clearly:
• 🚨 What to do during emergencies
• 🌙 What to do when a patient arrives at night
• 📞 When staff should call you
• 👨‍⚕️ When another doctor should be contacted
• 🏥 Who handles routine problems

👌 Clear SOPs reduce confusion and unnecessary calls.

🚫 8. DON'T TAKE THE HOSPITAL HOME

👎 Hospital problems should not become family problems.
☝ Staff issues should be handled through proper delegation.
👉 Someone not attending duty?
👉 Someone requesting emergency leave?
👉 Routine hospital issue?

👌 Have a responsible person who can handle such matters without disturbing you unnecessarily.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 9. BE A FAMILY MAN / WOMAN

❤️ Your family deserves your time too.
☝ Hospital is important.
❤️ But family is important too.

👉 Do not allow your entire life to revolve around your practice.

🎯 10. NURTURE A HOBBY

🙌 Have something in life outside medicine.

📸 Photography
✈️ Travelling
📚 Teaching
🎤 Lecturing
✍️ Writing
🎨 Art
🌿 Gardening
🏃 Exercise

👌 Choose something you genuinely enjoy.

🏖️ 11. TAKE REGULAR HOLIDAYS

👉 Plan holidays with your family.
☝ Preferably twice a year:

🌿 One shorter break — about 1 week
🌴 One longer break — about 2 weeks

👌 Rest is not a luxury.
❤️ It is part of maintaining a sustainable professional life.

🌍 12. REMEMBER — LIFE IS BIGGER THAN YOUR HOSPITAL

👆 There are many places to see.
👇 Many things to learn.
👉 Many experiences to enjoy.
❤️ Many memories to create.

✳️ FINAL REMINDER

👊 Running a hospital is your profession — it should not become your entire life.

⏰ Protect your time.
🤝 Delegate.
📱 Set boundaries.
📋 Build systems.
👨‍⚕️ Refer when appropriate.
❤️ Make time for family.
🌿 Enjoy your hobbies.
🏖️ Take holidays.

🙏 WORK WELL. LIVE WELL. STAY WELL.

A successful private practice should give you a life — not take your life away.

👨🏻‍⚕️ 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗿𝘀,

I came across this interesting case while evaluating a patient for xerostomia (dry mouth).

🔎 When I went through the history carefully and reviewed the complete medication timeline, the sequence of events was quite striking.

💊 One treatment was followed by another, and subsequently new symptoms appeared, leading to further treatment.

🙏 This is not about questioning any particular doctor, prescription, or treatment approach.

🌿 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬,

There seems to be a common grievance — or perhaps some unnecessary gossip — about my not attending programmes, gatherings, meetings, functions, get-togethers, and other events, and even about my occasionally declining invitations as a guest, chief guest, special invitee, etc.

I feel it is time for me to clarify this personally.

🙏 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲.

This is not merely my profession; 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝.

Anything that makes me compromise on that responsibility troubles my conscience, because ultimately, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐈 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐮𝐭𝐲. 🤲

Unlike many other professions, a doctor cannot simply switch off duty hours, take a casual leave, or leave patients unattended for the sake of attending an event.

🩺 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭. 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬.

I cannot even depend entirely on an assistant, because many of my patients specifically want to consult 𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲. Their trust and expectations are something I value deeply.

And it is not only during my regular working hours.

🌙 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 — 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

𝐌𝐲 𝐝𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤.

There have even been occasions when I had to leave a programme in the middle to attend a patient. This is one reason I sometimes hesitate to accept invitations in the first place — I would never want my absence or sudden departure to put the organisers in an awkward or difficult situation.

🕰️ 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐬.

Even then, I often attend house calls, and if patients come to my home seeking consultation, 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

So, my dear friends and well-wishers… ❤️

It is simply the consequence of the life I have chosen — 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬.

I sincerely value every invitation, every friendship, every relationship and every person who thinks of inviting me. 🙏

But sometimes, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞.

And I hope you will understand that this choice is never made out of disrespect.

📌 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐌𝐘 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄

In the past, I did attend several programmes and social functions, genuinely trying to honour the invitations and the people who invited me.

But on a few such occasions, 𝐈 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

Some had waited.
Some had returned disappointed.
Some had to postpone their consultation.
And some genuinely needed me at that very time.

💭 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧.

I realised that while attending a programme may mean a lot to me or to the organisers for a few hours, 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

That lesson stayed with me.

Since then, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

It is not that I don't value social occasions.
It is not that I don't respect the organisers.
It is not that I don't enjoy meeting people.

❤️ 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭.

And if choosing my patients over a social gathering makes me appear absent from certain circles, I humbly accept that misunderstanding.

Because at the end of the day, 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞.

I hope this small clarification puts an end to unnecessary assumptions and loose talk.

🙏 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲.

My sincere apologies to anyone whose invitation I have declined, whose programme I could not attend, or whom I may have unintentionally disappointed.

🩺❤️ 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫.
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠.

And that trust is a responsibility 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐥𝐲. 🩺❤️

Perhaps someday, when my circumstances allow, I may be able to participate more often in the social occasions and gatherings that I genuinely value.

Until then, 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞.

With respect, gratitude and affection to everyone who understands and continues to support me.
