"Do you experience pain in the buttock, along with pain, tingling, or numbness traveling down the back of the leg? One possible cause could be irritation of the piriformis muscle."
What is the Piriformis Muscle?
"The piriformis is a small muscle located deep in the hip and buttock region. The sciatic nerve passes close to it, and in some people, the nerve may pass beneath or through the piriformis muscle."
How does the problem occur?
"If the piriformis muscle becomes tight, irritated, or goes into spasm, it may irritate or put pressure on the sciatic nerve. This can cause buttock pain and, in some cases, shooting pain, tingling, or numbness that travels down the thigh or leg."
