"Do you experience pain in the buttock, along with pain, tingling, or numbness traveling down the back of the leg? One possible cause could be irritation of the piriformis muscle."

What is the Piriformis Muscle?

"The piriformis is a small muscle located deep in the hip and buttock region. The sciatic nerve passes close to it, and in some people, the nerve may pass beneath or through the piriformis muscle."

How does the problem occur?

"If the piriformis muscle becomes tight, irritated, or goes into spasm, it may irritate or put pressure on the sciatic nerve. This can cause buttock pain and, in some cases, shooting pain, tingling, or numbness that travels down the thigh or leg."

IT Band Syndrome - The

Runner's Nemesis Feeling that sharp pain on the outer side of your knee after a long run or ride? You might be battling Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) - one of the most common overuse injuries in athletesWhat's happening? The IT band a thick fascia from your hip to knee - gets tight or irritated as it rubs over the lateral femoral condyle, especially with repetitive flexion-extension. Common causes: Weak gluteus medius & hip stabilizers Poor running mechanics Overtraining or downhill running Tight TFL or IT band itself Physio Focus: βœ” Correct biomechanics Strengthen glutes & core Stretch and release TFL/IT band Gradual return to activity Don't just foam roll - fix the cause, not the consequence.

The cubital fossa is a triangular depression on the anterior (front) aspect of the elbow. It is an important anatomical region because it contains major nerves, arteries, and tendons passing between the arm and forearm.

Boundaries

line joining the medial and lateral epicondyles of the humerus

Medial boundary: Pronator teres muscle

Lateral boundary: Brachioradialis muscle

Apex: Point where brachioradialis crosses pronator teres

Floor Brachialis muscle (proximal)

Supinator muscle (distal)

Roof Skin

Superficial fascia (contains median cubital vein, cephalic vein, basilic vein, cutaneous nerves)

Deep fascia reinforced by the bicipital aponeurosis

Contents (lateral β†’ medial) A useful mnemonic is "TAN":

Tendon of biceps brachii

Artery - brachial artery (which divides into radial and ulnar arteries)

Nerve - median nerve

Additionally:

Radial nerve
