A comprehensive academic and hands-on training session on Atrial Fibrillation (AF) was successfully conducted by Dr. Thota Naga Raghunandan, MD, DM – Cardiology, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Latha Super Speciality Hospital.
The session focused on the growing present-day burden of Atrial Fibrillation, its clinical importance, various types of AF, definitions, signs and symptoms, methods of identification, and interpretation of different ECG patterns associated with AF.
Detailed discussion was carried out on the 2024 ESC Guidelines (active for 2025–26) regarding evidence-based management of Atrial Fibrillation, with special emphasis on the AF-CARE pathway:
🔹 C – Comorbidities and risk factor management
🔹 A – Anticoagulation to prevent stroke
🔹 R – Rate and rhythm control
🔹 E – Evaluation and periodic follow-up
Special importance was given to the CHA₂DS₂-VASc scoring system for stroke prevention and appropriate anticoagulation strategies. The session also covered antiarrhythmic medications, including drug dosages, titration methods, indications, and clinical considerations during treatment.
As part of the practical learning experience, hands-on training regarding cardioversion techniques was provided to all attending staff members, helping them improve confidence and emergency cardiac care skills.
The interactive session enabled all participants to clarify their doubts, strengthen their clinical understanding, and enhance their knowledge in modern AF management and emergency cardiac procedures.
