Andrea Rubin and her foundation, Hope Is Life, have always been very close to Ayushpathy and to our hearts. Andrea has been a constant source of inspiration through her life and work, and I had once written about her as well. For a long time, we wished to contribute in whatever way we could to the children of Hope Is Life.
A few years ago, we were fortunate to provide treatments to some of the children in need. For two years, we travelled to Odisha to offer treatments at their homes. This year, when Andrea suggested bringing the children to Ayushpathy, we were truly happy and honoured to welcome them here.
What we do is small compared to the immense work Andrea does for these children. Still, as the Malayalam saying goes, “Annarakkannanum thannaalaayath”—everyone gives what they can. We are deeply grateful to Andrea and Hope Is Life for giving us this opportunity to contribute in our own humble way. Thank you.

Oushadha Seva – A Timeless Karkidakam Tradition

Ayurveda emphasizes simple, consistent practices to maintain health rather than relying only on major treatments. Following seasonal and regional health practices plays an important role in preserving well-being.

In Kerala, the Malayalam month of Karkidakam is traditionally regarded as a time to restore and rejuvenate the body. Simple practices such as consuming medicated porridge (Karkidaka Kanji), regular oil massage, and following a wholesome seasonal diet have long been part of this tradition.

Oushadha Seva is another simple yet powerful practice observed during Karkidakam. Traditionally performed on the 16th day of Karkidakam, it involves the intake of specific herbal preparations on an empty stomach. This custom has been followed in many Kerala households for generations. The medicine may vary from region to region, but its purpose remains the same. In some places, a small quantity of paste prepared from the root of Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica) is used, while in others, Mukkudi—a traditional preparation made with buttermilk and digestive herbs—is preferred.

These traditional practices are intended to support healthy digestion and metabolism during the monsoon season, when digestive strength is believed to be naturally reduced according to Ayurveda. By caring for digestion, Ayurveda aims to promote overall health and well-being.

Small, mindful practices followed consistently can make a meaningful difference in maintaining long-term health.

At Ayushpathy Ayurvedasram, we believe that preserving Kerala's authentic Ayurvedic traditions, such as Oushadha Seva, helps people embrace a healthier lifestyle through simple, time-tested seasonal practices

Honouring the Guru Who Illuminated Our Path

Every meaningful journey begins with a teacher. Gurus are the guiding light who shape our lives, awaken wisdom within us, and lead us towards our true purpose.

The journey of Ayushpathy Ayurvedasram is a reflection of the invaluable blessings and guidance we received from our teachers. Whatever we have been able to achieve in Ayurvedic healing is deeply rooted in the knowledge they selflessly shared with us.

Today, we bow our heads in heartfelt gratitude to Dr. P. M. S. Raveendranath, our respected Guru, who revealed the profound wisdom of Ayurveda and inspired us to dedicate our lives to the path of holistic healing. His teachings continue to guide every patient we serve and every step we take in our mission to preserve and practice authentic Ayurveda.

We offer our deepest respect and gratitude to our Guru and to all the teachers who dedicate their lives to spreading knowledge, compassion, and healing.
