Lindin Restaurant & Café Bistro, on the banks of lake Laugarvatn, stands on a firm foundation of culinary excellence that has attracted patrons from around the world. Owner and head chef, Baldur Öxdal Halldórsson trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York in 1986–1987 and received his chef’s toque at the prestigious Richemont Professional School in Lucerne from 1988–1989, where he le

arned the fine craft of the pastry chef and the secrets behind a great dessert, as well as food styling and hotel management. Chef Halldórsson took over Lindin Restaurant in 2002 which has become known as the ‘Mecca of Icelandic wild game’, priding itself on its year round menu featuring only wild caught fish and seafood, lamb from Baldur’s own farm ‘Lindarbrekka’ in North East Iceland and reindeer that Baldur hunts himself. Exotic dishes like grilled reindeer and cormorant with blueberry-aquavit sauce and arctic char tartare with coconut sauce are featured on the menu. Lindin is located in the village of Laugarvatn, right beside the lovely natural steam baths and pool at Fontana Spa. The 45 minute scenic drive from Reykjavik takes you through enchanting landscapes between Geysir/Gullfoss and Thingvellir, making this an excellent choice for a day’s journey. Lonely Planet had this to say about Lindin’s legendary chocolate mousse:
“Lindin is the best restaurant for miles, its menu uses local and seasonal ingredients-fresh char from the lake, reindeer, goose and guillemot – and quiet jazz and candlelight create a relaxing atmosphere. Its Belgian dark chocolate mousse, with raspberry purée and watermelon pieces, is allegedly the best in the world – and, having tasted it, we won’t argue!”
