Love the sun but love my skincare more.

In my pursuit to slowly switch my skincare products into more sustainable, earth and body friendly brands, SPF became one that was hard to pinpoint. A lot of the brands I love either scanned (on ) as pollutants to the environment, coral bleaching, highly toxic to aquatic organisms, or as skin irritants, endocrine disruptors, having adverse effects on fertility. Suffice it to say - this was almost 😵 enough to stop using SPF altogether. But I am conscious of the sun ageing the skin, and damaging the skin if overexposure occurs, so I had to find something.

Via trial and error, I found some brands that scan “green” on Yuka, work well (no sunburn), and feel good on application. Here’s a little debrief saving you time in your pursuit for clean products.

- lightweight, without being streaky, and a smooth texture, great for body. make sure to reapply as it’s a 30

- this one’s more heavy duty and I used it as a spot cream for my freckles, moles and sun spots

- so light and cooling, perfect for face, I used this under my foundation if I had to wear makeup. it doesn’t get goopy

- love Pai’s products in general, a bit of a thicker coverage for face. used this for a full day of sun. recommend makeup free

Sunly - I can’t find their instagram but this was a tinted!! lip SPF. it gave a great natural color, applies nicely. and protected my lips

☀️ Hope these were helpful! Let me know how they work for you. Enjoy the summer sun mindfully + sustainably xx

My Retreat takeaways:

the most powerful (free) restorative healer is Nature. if you’re feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, etc., nature is an always available resource to calm the nervous system. go for a walk, find a tree + put your hand on the bark, listen to the birds or the leaves rustling, place your bare feet on the ground. Aligning with natures energetic frequency is medicine for the soul.

Silence is powerful. Silence can reveal more than words. Silence heightens our other senses. Silence allows for the use of body language when communicating. More can be said through the eyes than by words. Truths are revealed when we are silent.

Befriend uncertainty.
Get comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Your biggest teacher is the unknown.
Change your perspective from why is this happening TO me, to this is happening FOR me. Why? To learn + grow.

If you look at life’s challenges as unwanted circumstances you will never be able to move forward. Outside circumstances don’t change. The way we tackle them can. Reframe the challenge from hard/scary/dangerous/difficult to how can i make this fun. Get creative. Fear is stagnant. Creativity (and fun) is alive.

Human connection (in person) is a tangible healing power. There is nothing comparable to sitting in a room together, collectively sharing our truths without judgement where all feelings are held in a safe space. What is created is a sense of being seen, heard + understood. This is called Belonging. Belong to real people. Real communities. Who share values which are built on love.

Daily movement is (free) medicine.
Daily meditation is (free) medicine.
Daily gratitude is (free) medicine.

Routine builds confidence through repetition and consistency. It sets you up to show up for yourself. To trust yourself to keep your own promise. Get good at your routine so that when life throws curveballs you can remain standing on the foundation you’ve built.

Which of these align with you? x

had an epiphany moment as project no. 01 is coming to a close and I begin gathering inspiration for project no. 2. my eye, unbeknownst to me, has always been drawn to some sort of element of design. my iPhoto is filled with snapshots of interesting colour combinations, spacial layouts, symmetry, geometric shapes, contrasts in light and dark + how it plays energy, emotion or character into a scene. these snapshots come from places I’ve traveled, art I’ve seen, art I’ve drawn, scenes from beloved films, corners of rooms which make me feel something, food, table settings, nature, movement, craftsmanship, people + their stories. I went years back and so much of what I’ve put into project no. 01 is a culmination of these images which i have been collecting because they made me feel something. and ultimately, I think, at least, when designing a space, or anything for that matter, if it doesn’t make you feel something, then you’ve lost the soul of the project. I want to share some of these collections of moments which made me feel something. see if you can feel something too.

When I worked for the Brooklyn Nets I was incredibly lucky to be able to produce a series called “Out of Bounds”.

The goal for us was to get to know the guys outside the court: to ask questions about the person inside, not the name we see on the back of the jersey.

Each interview was a privilege. I was able to hear stories of adversity, loss, wins & lessons-learned. I particularly loved sitting down with . Even then, it seemed that the guy was a voracious learner looking to soak up as much of the world as he could, whether that was in basketball, or outside of the game.

Nearly ten years later, I saw a post pop up from Toko. He shared with his followers that he received his master’s degree in sports management and legal skills.

What was more impressive was the messaging around the post. He wrote, “this goes to the younger generation, to encourage them to believe that the stereotype of studying + playing sports does not go hand in hand is breakable. it all comes down to willpower, commitment and time management. It is never too early or too late to think ahead + plan for the future. Remember always believe in yourself + be a leader by example.”

It’s really special to watch people you know grow + evolve, whilst challenging the norm + proving that all things are possible.

Thanks for the inspiration, Toko! 🙏🏼

As for all of you: it is never too late. Whatever you keep putting off, start it today!
