Someone said that… it matters more what you think you can do than what you know how to do.

Bandura talked about self-efficacy:

if you think you can
you try, you resist, you learn.

If you think you can’t do it
you often stop earlier.

Although you might succeed.

Sometimes the limit is not real.

We are the ones who anticipate it.

Mani che cullano,
mani che prendono,
mani lasciano andare.
Tra luce e ombra,
ognuno porta con sé
la propria parte di destino.
🧿
Forse l’Oriente ci ricorda questo:
che nulla ci appartiene davvero.

Hands that cradle,
hands that take,
hands that let go.
Between light and shadow,
everyone brings with them
one’s share of destiny.
🧿
Perhaps the East reminds us of this:
that nothing really belongs to us.

He looks you in the eye… and does exactly what you’ve forbidden him.

And there your anger rises.
You ask yourself: “So he doesn’t respect me?”

If you’re a mom or a dad, you know this scene so well.

But stop for a second.
It’s not (just) a challenge. It’s not (just) disrespect.

It’s growth. It’s confusion. It’s the need to understand how far he or she can go… and whether you’re really there to keep the limit.

Punishments? Yes, they are needed.
But not to vent anger.

They are used to teach.

If you punish in the moment of anger, you are only creating distance.

If the punishment is exaggerated or meaningless, your son, your daughter, doesn’t learn… they just distance themselves.

It works when it is coherent, connected to what happened, and above all explained.

And after that?
Here comes the most important part… the one that almost no one does.

The dialogue.

“Let’s talk about it.”
“What really happened?”
“What can we do differently next time?”

Because your child doesn’t need a judge.
He needs an adult who knows how to set boundaries… without breaking up the relationship.

*
I draw and paint to get closer to things.
To stop the gaze, listen to what lives
and seek, beyond shape, its essence.
Nature calls me back to itself with its colors,
movements, the silent creatures.
And in the gesture of painting
I try to follow its rhythm,
as if through art
could you look deeper,
understand what the eyes alone
they can’t see.
Maybe making art is this:
get back to things with a new look,
until you can feel its breath.

Someone said that… you can resist almost anything, if it makes sense.

Frankl noted that
It’s not just pain that destroys people.

It’s the meaningless pain.

When you find a sense, a meaning,
suffering also changes its shape.

You don’t always choose what you live.

But you can choose the meaning
that you give to it.

❔Le vostre domande 🍀

Music: For all we know by Karlin

One of you,a dad, asked me this question:
Why do we, as parents, sometimes seem to not want to see our children’s problems?

Do you know what one of the hardest things is for a parent?
Reaalizing that your child is not feeling good.

And not because you don’t love him.
But because the human brain also protects us from emotional pain.

In psychology this mechanism is called negation:
when a reality is too painful, sometimes unconsciously we choose to minimize it or not see it at all.

Freud already explained this by talking about defense mechanisms.
And today Bowlby’s attachment theory reminds us of one important thing:
when the bond with a child is very strong, seeing their suffering can make a parent feel guilty, helpless, scared.

Then something very human happens:
‘It’s just a phase.’
‘He’s exaggerating.’
‘It will pass.’

But sometimes that child doesn’t need the problem solved right away.
He needs to feel seen.

Being a good parent doesn’t mean being perfect.
It means finding the courage to look at what hurts too.

Because a son who feels seen…
is a son who stops feeling alone.

Nietzsche said that… you have to become who you are.

And he didn’t talk about “finding yourself”.
He was talking about creating yourself.

Because there is no ready-made version of you.
There is what you choose to become.

And we often get stuck
not because we don’t know who we are,
but because we are afraid of disappointing expectations.

Becoming yourself comes at a price:
stop being what others want.

Have you ever experienced a situation…
and gave it a meaning that, over time,
has completely changed?

The truth is that we don’t react to reality as it is…
but to the meaning we attribute to it.

Paul Watzlawick explained it well:

“There is no absolute reality, but multiple versions of reality.”
Two people can have the exact same experience…
and come out with opposite emotions.

Because our brain interprets, selects, builds.
It filters everything through past experiences, beliefs, fears.

An end can feel like a failure…or the beginning of something you didn’t see before.

Cognitive assessment studies,
show that it is our interpretation of events
— not the event itself — 🛑
to determine the emotions we feel.

Often the true meaning of what we experience…can come after a time.
What hurts you today may prove necessary tomorrow.

Maybe you can’t control everything that happens.
But you can start observing
how you’re reading it.

The one you see now,
is just one of the possible versions of reality.
