What makes a great teacher?
As a teacher trainer, this is something I've thought about a lot over the years.
Education matters.
Continuing education matters.
Technical skill matters.
Our clients deserve professionals who understand movement, anatomy, progression, and safety. But one of the biggest lessons I've learned in over 15 years of teaching is this:
Empathy is key.
It's not about rigidly following the plan you had prepared for that day.
It's not about delivering the perfect class exactly as it was written.
It's about seeing who is in front of you.
Whether it's one person, two people, or a room full of clients.
It's about reading the room.
Understanding the energy.
Recognizing when someone needs encouragement, when someone needs to be challenged, and when someone simply needs to feel safe.
The best teachers don't just teach exercises.
They teach people.
And people are different every single day.
Knowledge attracts.
Connection retains.
In my experience, clients may forget the exercise you taught them, but they rarely forget how you made them feel.
