This diet, which is praised by scientists for its healthy benefits, is currently being challenged by the increased consumption of pre-packaged and processed food, rich in salt and saturated fats with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and weight gain.
The MedDiet project worked for the preservation and promotion of this diet, which is based on abundance of , , , and , the usage of , the frequent consumption of , the moderate consumption of derivates and the low consumption of red meat and simple sugars.
Through the project, over 4,800 young students in , , , , , and took part in educational activities and are now more aware about the importance of a balanced and healthy .
