Jazz As Open System Music, (from now on, Jaosm), will for the first time offer a systematic exploration of the various ways in which improvisation links with Jazz music. As to say, what the project I lead aims to accomplish is to put forward an attempted solution to the problem/question: What is Jazz? Jaosm will postulate a new perspective on two particularly significant ways in which the topic co
uld be developed and perhaps solved. Further, the project will help establishing an international network of various bodies and institutions, plus many researchers, including both established and early career. It will also draw on the unique research strengths in the territory of Sardinia, not only within academia in general and Philosophy in particular in the areas of Aesthetics and Theoretical Philosophy as well as Epistemology, but also in conjunction with professionals operating in the filed of Music. Indeed, well-known musicians, both locally and internationally, will effectively contribute to the research. The Conservatory of Sassari (Department of Jazz) and the most prestigious private cultural societies working on jazz take part to the teamwork. Such an ambitious project is also planned to be open to different connections with international societies and projects, already active on the same topic.
