I don’t know who needs to hear this, but…

You are not less of a horsewoman because you’re anxious to ride after a traumatic experience.

But I know it can feel that way.

Especially when you’re surrounded by women who seem fearless and completely competent in the saddle.

You might look at them and think… “I used to be like that.” or “I feel so inadequate riding with her.”

Maybe you don’t feel as confident anymore.
You second-guess yourself.
You sit things out that you would have done without thinking twice before.
And somewhere along the way, you started to feel like maybe you don’t belong as much as you used to.

Like you’re not as much of a cowgirl anymore.
Not as capable.
Not as tough.
Not as much of a “real” horsewoman.
But you are.

You are not lesser because of what you’ve been through.
You are not behind the women who seem more confident than you.
You are not better or worse than anyone else.
You are simply walking a different path right now.

The way I see it?
You’ve been initiated into a healing path with horses.
Life initiates us all into different journeys.
This happens to be yours.

And maybe this chapter isn’t asking you to become the horsewoman you were before.
Maybe it’s asking you to become a horsewoman who knows herself more deeply.
Who listens to her body.
Who honours her limits.
Who rebuilds trust with herself instead of abandoning herself to prove that she’s brave.
The woman who serves as proof to others that it can be done.

You still belong at the barn.
You still belong with horses.
You still have a place in the saddle.
Even if getting there looks different right now.
You are still every bit as much of a horsewoman.

Fear did not take that from you.
Trauma did not take that from you.
It’s still yours.

PS: I actually wrote this for my past self.

Follow along & comment CALM if you’re ready to finally heal from horse related trauma! Trust me, I know the pain… In 2020, I had a traumatic riding accident that nearly took my life.

Maybe horses used to feel like home to you.

Maybe riding was where you felt most confident, capable and most like yourself.

And then something happened.

A fall. An accident. A scary ride. An injury. Or maybe enough smaller moments happened that eventually your body started responding to horses differently.

You still love them, but riding doesn’t feel the way it used to.

You overthink things you never used to think twice about. Your body tenses before your mind even knows why. Maybe you avoid certain situations entirely. Maybe you keep telling yourself you just need to ride more, get more confident or push through it.

I want you to know that I see you.

Because I’ve been there too.

After a traumatic riding accident, I spent years trying to regain the confidence and safety I had lost.

Eventually, I realized I wasn’t dealing with a horsemanship problem. I was dealing with trauma.

My mind knew I was safe. My body didn’t.

Learning to work with my nervous system and heal somatically changed everything for me. That experience led me to study somatic healing and nervous system regulation so I could better understand how our bodies respond to and heal from trauma.

And now I want to help other horsewomen find their way back too.

Not by telling you to suck it up.
Not by telling you to just ride more.
And not by promising you’ll become exactly who you were before.

Because I believe there can be something even better on the other side of this.

A horsewoman who understands herself more deeply.
Who listens to her body.
Who trusts herself.
Who feels safe.
Who connects with her horse from a completely different place.

You haven’t lost the horsewoman you were.
Maybe you’re becoming a new version of her.

Herd of Two Healing is the guided healing community I created for women walking this road. It opens Spring 2027.

You don’t heal riding trauma by proving you’re not afraid. You heal by helping your body learn that it can feel safe again.
