I spent the weekend with one of my oldest friends, who also happens to be doing some incredible work around obesity, healthcare and policy (she’s incredible check her out ❤️)
We absolutely don’t agree on everything, which is exactly why I love talking to her.
We had some properly meaty conversations about obesity, genetics, language, healthcare, individual biology and what actually drives disease.
She made me think differently about things and I challenged some of her thinking too.
Nobody got offended. Nobody needed to “win”. We listened, questioned, learnt and probably both walked away with a slightly wider lens.
And THAT is what I think healthcare desperately needs more of!
⚠️ Because when we talk about changing healthcare, who is actually in the room? 🤔
▶️ At one end you have a very conventional, evidence-led medical model.
▶️ At the other, you have people looking much more broadly at whole health, lifestyle, environment, nervous system, nutrition, emotional health, individual biology and things we may not yet fully understand or know how to quantify.
☯️ Somewhere in the middle are approaches trying to bring those worlds together.
I don’t think either extreme has all the answers.
🆘 But I do think we have a problem when the people making decisions all come from broadly the same paradigm, education and way of thinking.
You can’t create a genuinely different healthcare system using only the same voices that created the current one.
😞 If what we’re doing was working brilliantly, we wouldn’t be facing the levels of chronic disease and healthcare pressure we are now.
🤔So maybe we need different questions
🗣️Different voices
💡More curiosity
🔍And a much wider lens
▶️ I genuinely want to hear what you think.
❓Where do you sit on that healthcare spectrum?
⚖️ What do you think we’re missing?
✅ And if you could change ONE thing about the way we approach health and healthcare, what would it be?
