A different kind of day at Château de Razac… 🏰

With the boys back in Jersey, John takes you on a rare and personal tour of the estate — sharing his vision for the future and what’s still to come as the restoration continues.

Alongside the tour, there’s some practical work getting done, lighting installed in the carriage house, plus something really exciting: two specialists arrive to carry out a full 3D digital scan of the entire château using LiDAR, photogrammetry and SLAM technology. It’s fascinating to see how cutting-edge tech is being used to support this historic restoration.

Oh, and Flynn the dog gets a bath in a garden pot. 🐶💦 Possibly the highlight of the episode.

A must-watch if you want a glimpse into where this incredible project is heading.

Every day I’m noticing one plant and taking a moment to sit with it, to recognise what it symbolises and the energy and meaning it carries. The last one was magnolia, and today it is ground ivy.

Ground ivy

Energetically, ground ivy feels clearing, observant, subtle, and quietly intelligent. It is not dramatic energy. It works close to the ground, moving gently through a space, finding its way in without force. It feels like a plant of perception, quiet persistence, and the kind of clarity that comes from paying attention to what is small and easily missed.

Herb wise, ground ivy has a long history in older herbal traditions, especially for the head, ears, catarrh, and damp congestion. It was also once used in brewing, which is where the old name alehoof comes from. It is one of those plants with a reputation for helping shift heaviness and stagnation, especially where things feel blocked or thick.

Spiritually, ground ivy connects with subtle awareness, intuition, clearing, and moving through overlooked places. It reminds us that not all medicine arrives boldly. Some of it comes through gentleness, patience, and quiet pe*******on. A plant that seems to say that what is lowly or unnoticed may still hold real power.

Every day I’m noticing one plant and taking a moment to sit with it, to recognise what it symbolises and the energy and meaning it carries. The last one was apple blossom, and today it is quince blossom.

Quince blossom

Energetically, quince blossom feels tender, receptive, fertile, and quietly devoted. It carries the energy of beginnings, but with more depth and groundedness than something fleeting or playful. This feels like a plant of inner ripening, emotional sincerity, and the early promise of something nourishing to come.

Herb wise, quince is better known through its fruit and seeds than its blossom. Traditionally, quince has been associated with digestion, soothing, and gentle astringency, with the fruit long valued as both food and medicine. The blossom feels like the first soft expression of that future nourishment, delicate at first, but carrying real substance behind it.

Spiritually, quince blossom connects with love, fruitfulness, sacred timing, and the quiet preparation for what is still forming. It speaks of trust in the process, especially when something meaningful is still in its early stages. There is a gentle steadiness in it. A reminder that what is truly nourishing often begins softly and unfolds in its own time.

In those quiet, foggy morning walks, Flynn takes his estate duties seriously. But it’s his eyes that speak the loudest.

They are the gateway to his soul, where every muddy paw, every bramble and every glance carries the sort of unconditional love that makes this chateau feel like home.

And just when you are completely lost in that look, he reminds you that, yes, you will still be mopping those floors later.

Some places don’t just get found. They call you.

In 2020, when I first saw Razac, I knew it was the right decision. Not the easy one, but the right one.

Taking this on wasn’t just about restoring an estate. It was a commitment to myself. A quiet agreement that I would stop holding back and start stepping into the unknown, even when it felt uncomfortable.

Letting go and trusting the process has been the hardest lesson there is. Not just here, but in every part of life.

You want certainty. You want to know it will work out. But life doesn’t really offer that. It asks you to show up, to keep moving, and to trust without having all the answers.

And that’s exactly what this place has done. It’s challenged every doubt, every fear, every part of me that wanted control.

At the same time, Razac is coming back to life in its own way. The wildflowers returning, the light finding its way through the trees, the buildings slowly waking up again. We are learning to listen rather than impose, allowing the buildings to tell their story. In the quiet moments, if you pay attention, their whispers start to guide you, giving a sense of direction for what comes next.

It’s not forced. It’s not rushed. It’s just unfolding.

Maybe that’s the real lesson.

Trust today for what it is.

And allow tomorrow to arrive in its own time.
