💻 What started as a coding course in Jersey is now helping support a family avocado plantation in Venezuela 🌱

After joining Code in Place at Digital Jersey, Maritza Gouveia began building an app for her dad to help track costs, workers, planting progress and the day-to-day running of the family project.

What makes this so exciting is how quickly learning turned into something real.

Using the Python skills she learned through the course, Maritza started creating a tool with a genuine purpose for her family, while continuing to build new features like AI support, reports and plant care reminders.

From Jersey to San Francisco, ethical hacker turned AI security founder Max Corbridge joins us at the Digital Jersey Hub next month for a fireside chat on building and fundraising a deep tech start up.

Having recently closed his pre-seed round in San Francisco, Max will share lessons from his journey so far, from teaching himself cyber security from scratch to launching Secure Agentics, an AI security start-up focused on securing AI agents in real time.

We’ll discuss:
• What investors actually look for in AI and cyber security start-ups
• Balancing product development with fundraising
• Lessons from raising capital in San Francisco’s competitive ecosystem
• The mindset needed to build and scale a deep tech company

Today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Digital Jersey Hub and Geraldine Cardwell for hosting an important session on digital accessibility and helping raise awareness around creating more inclusive online experiences.

The session explored how different disabilities affect the way people interact with digital content, accessibility laws and standards, common barriers online, and why accessible websites benefit everyone.

It was also a valuable reminder of the incredible work happening locally through charities and organisations including Enable Jersey, EYECAN, Jersey Cheshire Home, Wetwheels Jersey, Healing Waves - Ocean Therapy, Les Amis, Jersey and Liberate Jersey, all helping to build a more accessible and inclusive island community.

Accessibility matters both online and offline, and every step towards inclusion makes a difference.
