just in case you forgot!! Surrealism has long been close to my heart ❣️❣️❣️
I think it’s really interesting how often surrealism is assumed to be meaningless because it might not make ‘sense’ at first glance, but a lot of these pieces are actually some of the most personal and meaningful tattoos I’ve done
For example the bird piece in the last slide is a combination of a blue tit, many of which have been sweet company to my client and dear friend after they moved off island, and a graph representing part of the Drake Equation (a formula predicting the likelihood of extraterrestrial life in the Milky Way, no relation to the rapper) which they had memorised in school and we have many fond memories around 🪐👾
I’ve also been reading some really interesting essays about how surrealism is inherent to imagining a better world, because it requires seeing things not as they are, and being able to imagine something which doesn’t exist yet 🫶🪰🤲🪱❣️ Maybe the next surrealists could be a little less sexist:’) (I’m looking at you, Andre Breton)
But if rearranging the world as we know it sounds like too much to take on right now, feel free to start with arranging a sick tattoo;)
