明日のリーダーたちへ贈る、力強いメッセージ！✨ Powerful words for the leaders of tomorrow! ✨

SIJ開会式では、廣津留真理代表理事の開会の辞に続き、佐藤大分県知事、松田大分市副市長、カセムAIU学長、米山APU学長、そしてハーバード生代表のSeanさんより、心に響く素晴らしいスピーチを頂戴しました。

式の最後は、共同設立者である廣津留すみれからのメッセージで締めくくられ、これから始まる「知の冒険」に向けた素晴らしいインスピレーションとなりました。

地域や文化の垣根を越えて、各界のリーダー、教育者、そして若きチェンジメーカーたちが一堂に会した、SIJ2026の意義深いスタートでした！🌏✨

At the SIJ Opening Ceremony, we were honored to welcome inspiring speeches from Oita Governor Sato, Deputy Mayor Matsuda, AIU President Cassim, APU President Yoneyama, and Team Harvard representative Sean, following opening remarks from SIJ President Mari Hirotsuru.

The ceremony concluded with words from our co-founder, Sumire Hirotsuru, setting an inspiring tone for the journey ahead.

A meaningful start to SIJ 2026, bringing together leaders, educators, and young changemakers from across communities and cultures! 🌏✨

おさるの山でSIJ🐵SIJ at Monkey Mountain

サマースクール修了の翌日は、ハーバード講師陣とTAで、美しい大分の海岸線をドライブしながら高崎山へ🏔️

素晴らしい景色を楽しみ、たくさんのお猿さんたちに出会いました。かわいい赤ちゃん猿にも！さらに、日本に昔から伝わる「幸運をもたらす」と言われる風習についても学びました🍀

そして嬉しいサプライズ！SIJの生徒たちにも偶然再会✨

自然と友情にあふれた、SIJのもうひとつの忘れられない思い出になりました💛

The day after wrapping up SIJ, our Harvard instructors and teaching assistants took a scenic drive along Oita’s beautiful coastline to Takasakiyama Monkey Park! 🐒

We enjoyed the breathtaking views, met so many monkeys—including adorable babies!—and learned about a traditional Japanese custom said to bring good luck. 🍀

And what a lovely surprise—we even ran into some of our SIJ students there! ✨

A perfect day of nature, culture, friendship, and one more unforgettable SIJ memory.

SIJ 大分県産食材ランチ🍽️もレッスンの一環

SIJ の思い出✨

茨城県ご出身、フランスで修行され、大分市で活躍する玉井徳裕シェフのご協力により、PSクラスはランチディスカッションを開催しました👨‍🍳

温暖化した大分で育ったパパイヤ、大分県人で知らない人はいない？「鶏めし」、県産しいたけのフレンチ風、など10種をおいしくいただきました😋実物を前に、受講生の議論も盛り上がりました！

With the wonderful support of Chef Tamai, trained in France, and now based in Oita, our Public Speaking class enjoyed a special Lunch Discussion 👨‍🍳

Students tasted 10 dishes featuring local Oita ingredients, from papaya grown in Oita’s warming climate to one of the Oita specialties “torimeshi”chicken rice, and French-inspired local shiitake mushrooms.

Great food sparked great conversation and plenty of smiles 😋💬

At first, learning CS entirely in English felt challenging. But soon, hesitation turned into excitement as students coded, created their own projects, bonded with their teachers, and grew with confidence, “Look what I made!”🚀

SIJ PSクラス「4つの視点から見た大分の未来」💫　SIJ memories

今年のPublic Speakingクラスは、大分の課題解決に挑戦！小中高生が4つのグループに分かれてチームワーク。

ハーバード講師陣がオール英語でリサーチから結論まで徹底指導。論理的思考力とスピーキング力が大きく成長しました🌱

①♨️温泉県の強みでウェルネスツーリズムを取り込み、交通改善も提案
②🥕気候変動に負けない食文化の継承をSNSと食フェスで発信
③🎋企業誘致・移住支援で若者の大分離れを食い止める
④🏯府内城を多言語ガイドやランタンウォークで再生

This year’s Public Speaking class tackled real issues facing Oita Prefecture, in 4 teams, all in English.

① Wellness Tourism & Transit
Turning Oita’s hot springs into a global wellness destination, plus better transit to key sites.

② Protecting Food Culture
Fighting climate impact on traditional crops through social media and food festivals.

③ Keeping Youth in Oita
Business incentives, relocation grants, and cultural events to stop the outflow.

④ Reviving Funai Castle
Multilingual guides, lantern walks, and kimono rentals to boost tourism.

Elementary through high schoolers teamed up under Harvard mentors. Full English lessons in research, interviews, data analysis, debate, and conclusions. Real growth in both critical thinking and public speaking.

📚 SIJ 2026 Memories: LA1 Class SIJの思い出。まずはLA1英語集中クラスから。

📚 SIJ 2026の思い出:LA1クラス

LA1では、ゲームやディスカッション、ライティング活動を通して言語力と表現力を磨きました。

まずは名詞・動詞・形容詞の基本を、
次に説明文・描写文・説得文・物語文・創作文という5つの文章スタイルに挑戦、言葉を選び、考えを整理し、詳細を加え、自分らしく伝える力を育てました。さらに両親への手紙を書きました。💌

素敵な授業をしてくださったAndy先生、Halle先生ありがとうございました😊

In the LA1 class, students strengthened their language and writing skills through a mix of interactive games, lessons, discussions, and writing activities. They began by exploring the parts of speech, focusing on nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Fun icebreakers helped students connect these concepts to themselves, such as describing their names with personal adjectives or sharing nouns that represented things they liked. Students then explored the five different types of writing: expository, descriptive, persuasive, narrative, and creative, learning the purpose and unique features of each style. Through guided activities and writing practice, students learned how to choose effective words, organize their ideas, add detail, and express themselves more clearly. The course culminated in a meaningful final project where students wrote a letter to their parents, putting their skills into practice by using a variety of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and writing techniques to communicate their thoughts and feelings in a personal and creative way. —Andy

【Closing Ceremony of SIJ2026! 閉会しました🎉】

昨日8月8日SIJ2026の閉会式が行われ、各クラスの総決集となる最終発表Pitch & Showcase が行われました！

パフォーミング・アーツの受講生がステージで堂々と発表しました。

講師が一人ひとりの名前を呼びながら温かいエールを送ったり、受講生の皆さんからハーバード生講師へメッセージカードが贈られたりと、感動的な場面も。また全員が親御さんに書いた感謝の手紙も一部披露されました。

ステージの上で堂々と、誇らしげに輝く姿に会場中が魅了された素晴らしい閉会式となりました！みなさんおめでとうございます🎉✨
