Branch-supporting work for Unshu mikan 🌱🍊
The fruits are sizing up quite well this season.
With such a heavy crop load, we’d like to irrigate to reduce stress on the trees, especially under this heat… but considering fruit enlargement and flavor, we’d rather hold back.
It’s a tricky balance at this stage 🤔

The harvest of “Kotaro Momo,” a specialty plum from Shodoshima, has begun!
We leave the unripe fruit on the tree to let it ripen under the sun.
Even after harvesting, any fruit judged to still be unripe during sorting will be left to ripen further before it’s ready to enjoy.

🍑 Kotarō Sumomo — a specialty Japanese plum from Shodoshima, grown on trees over 60 years old.
This year, the harvest is expected to be very limited.
To protect the few precious fruits still on the trees until they reach perfect ripeness, we’ve carefully covered them with nets.
