Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM): Let's Protect Our Girls

Did you know that Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) has no health benefits? Instead, it can cause serious physical and emotional harm that may last a lifetime.

FGM can lead to: • Severe pain and heavy bleeding. • Infections that can become life-threatening. • Problems passing urine. • Difficulties during childbirth, putting both mother and baby at risk. • Emotional trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Every girl deserves to grow up healthy, safe, and respected. Ending FGM starts with education, open conversations, and protecting the rights of girls.

As parents, guardians, and community members, let's choose love over harmful traditions. Together, we can build a future where every girl is free from violence and has the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Say NO to FGM. Protect girls. Protect their future.

Snake Bite First Aid: What You Should REALLY Do 🐍
Many people believe that tying a tight rope, cloth, or rubber above a snake bite is the right thing to do. It is NOT recommended. As shown in this picture, tying a tourniquet too tightly can cut off blood flow, causing severe tissue damage, permanent disability, or even loss of the affected limb.
If someone is bitten by a snake:
✅ Stay calm. Panic increases the spread of venom. ✅ Move the person away from the snake to prevent another bite. ✅ Keep the bitten arm or leg still and below the level of the heart if possible. ✅ Remove rings, bracelets, watches, or tight clothing before swelling begins. ✅ If available, apply a broad pressure bandage (only for bites from snakes whose venom spreads through the lymphatic system, and only if you know the correct technique). Do not use a tight tourniquet. ✅ Get the person to the nearest health facility immediately for medical assessment and treatment.
❌ DO NOT: ❌ Tie a tight rope, wire, or rubber band around the limb. ❌ Cut the bite wound. ❌ Suck out the venom. ❌ Apply ice, chemicals, herbs, or electric shocks. ❌ Try to catch or kill the snake if it puts you at risk.
Remember: The best treatment for a venomous snake bite is prompt medical care. Early treatment saves lives and helps prevent serious complications.

⚠️ A Swollen Sac on a Baby's Lower Back Could Be a Medical Emergency
This image shows a baby with a large swelling on the lower back, which is highly suggestive of a myelomeningocele, the most severe form of spina bifida. This is a birth defect in which the baby's spinal cord and its protective coverings protrude through an opening in the spine.
Children with this condition may experience:
Difficulty moving their legs or paralysis.
Loss of bladder and bowel control.
Increased risk of infections, especially if the sac ruptures.
Fluid buildup in the brain (hydrocephalus), which may require urgent treatment.
What should be done?
Seek immediate medical care.
Keep the swelling clean, moist, and protected from injury.
Surgery is often needed as early as possible to reduce the risk of infection and protect the spinal cord.
Can it be prevented? Many cases of spina bifida can be prevented if women take folic acid before conception and during early pregnancy. This is why every woman planning a pregnancy should talk to a healthcare provider about folic acid supplementation.
Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can greatly improve a child's quality of life.
This post is for health education only. The exact diagnosis cannot be confirmed from a photograph alone, and any child with a swelling like this needs urgent assessment by a healthcare professional.

🩺 When Can You Know Your Baby's Gender? 🤰💙💗
Many expectant parents are excited to find out whether they're having a boy or a girl!
✅ The baby's gender can usually be seen on an ultrasound scan between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, the baby's external genitalia are developed enough to be identified in most cases. However, the baby's position and the quality of the scan can affect accuracy.
Remember, the most important thing is a healthy baby and a healthy mother. Attend all your antenatal clinic visits for the best care throughout your pregnancy. ❤️
