First of all , Let's take a minute and appreciate how perfect , Fresh and Juicy these fruits look😍😍..

Do you ever find it strange how some color foods can turn you off the thought of eating, whereas others send you into a downward spiral of over-indulgence??

If yes, do you know WHY ? or how comes ?🤔🤔 Let us share with you why that happens .

The color of natural fruit and vegetables is provided by plant chemical or phytochemicals. Color plays a big part in the choice of food we eat, and the way in which we perceive it’s taste. That can work in your favor, but it can sometimes work against you too.😎

We are surrounded by color. It can affect our mood and motivation, our arousal and productivity. It can make us feel warm or cold🥶, happy😃 or sad😌. Visual stimuli is important in driving us and nature teaches us to make judgement based largely on what stimuli we are presented with.

These psychological and physical associations with color are often more powerful than the colors themselves – blues are calming, reds and oranges🍊 are exciting and full of energy. We might associate white with purity and black with a more sombre mood. Green of course reminds us of nature and health🍃.

There’s an old saying – the first to feast is the eye. Food comes in a near limitless array of natural colors. These colors can affect our mood, our appetite and even the taste of food. Food color and its palatability are very much interconnected.

Studies have shown that color plays a key role in influencing taste thresholds, sweetness perception, food preference, pleasantness, and acceptability.

The phytochemicals in plants are not essential nutrients as carbs and proteins are , but they help our bodies fight diseases , using their anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties 😇😇

Away from Avo-love now 😂 You've probably heard of good and bad fats , do you understand what they actually mean though ?

There are tw types of fats ,
1. UNSATURATED FATS ( GOOD )
2. SATURATED FATS AND TRANS FATS (BAD )

✔✔✔Fats that are tightly packed with no double bonds between the fatty acids are called saturated fats. There are some exceptions, but most are solid at room temperature.

Sources of saturated fat include:

🍃 fatty pieces of meat such as beef and lamb
🍃 some pork and chicken products
🍃 dairy products including cream, whole milk, butter, shortening, and cheese
🍃 coconut and palm oils

Saturated fats raise blood lipids, including low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels and certain other heart disease risk factors, such as inflammation.

✔✔✔✔ Unsaturated fats are loosely packed. They tend to be liquid at room temperature.
There are two main types of unsaturated fat:

1.Monounsaturated fats

Research shows that consumption of plant-based monounsaturated fats may help lower your risk for cardiovascular disease and overall mortality.

Foods that are highest in monounsaturated fats include:

~olive oil
~peanut oil
~avocados
~most nuts
~most seeds

2. Polyunsaturated fats

Your body needs polyunsaturated fats to function. Polyunsaturated fats help with muscle movement and blood clotting. Since your body doesn’t make this type of fat, you have to get it through your diet.

They include omega-3 and omega -6 : sources include

~fatty fish, such as sardines, tuna, salmon, trout, mackerel, and herring
~ground flax and flaxseed oil
~soybeans
~oysters
~walnuts

ARE GREEN POTATOES SAFE TO EAT?

Lets us first understand why potatoes go green...
Potatoes will often go green when they’re not stored properly and they're exposed to light. This is due to formation of chlorophyll (which is found in all green plants), however the green colour is a useful indicator that levels of certain toxins that are harmful to humans, known as solanine, may be increased.
Solanine are a group of toxins that are naturally present in potatoes, with concentrations highest in the sprouts and peel of potatoes. The levels can also increase when potatoes are damaged or when potatoes are exposed to light for prolonged periods. If a potato has gone green it’s likely to contain higher levels of the toxins.

Whilst not acutely toxic in humans, there are a number of reports suggesting that ingestion of potatoes containing high levels of solanine have led to poisoning incidents where the main symptoms displayed are irritation of the gut and also drowsiness. These symptoms have also been shown at high doses of solanine in controlled experiments using human volunteers.

Available evidence suggests that there is not a link between exposure to elevated levels of solanine from green potatoes and incidents of spina bifida or other malformations of the fetus.

✔✔Can I eat green potatoes if I peel them?

Peeling of green potatoes will greatly reduce the levels of glycoalkaloids as they are localised just below the surface of the peel. However, if these potatoes taste bitter after peeling, then it’s best not to eat them.

WHAT ARE ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants are molecules that fight free radicals in your body.
Free radicals are compounds that can cause harm if their levels become too high in your body. They’re linked to multiple illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Your body has its own antioxidant defenses to keep free radicals in check.

However, antioxidants are also found in food, especially in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based, whole foods. Several vitamins, such as vitamins E and C, are effective antioxidants.

WHAT ARE FREE RADICALS

Free radicals are constantly being formed in your body.

Without antioxidants, free radicals would cause serious harm very quickly, eventually resulting in death.

However, free radicals also serve important functions that are essential for health

For example, your immune cells use free radicals to fight infections

As a result, your body needs to maintain a certain balance of free radicals and antioxidants.
When free radicals outnumber antioxidants, it can lead to a state called oxidative stress.
Prolonged oxidative stress can damage your DNA and other important molecules in your body. Sometimes it even leads to cell death.

Damage to your DNA increases your risk of cancer, and some scientists have theorized that it plays a pivotal role in the aging process .

Several lifestyle, stress, and environmental factors are known to promote excessive free radical formation and oxidative stress,

Onions and potatoes are good candidates to keep on the same pantry, but don't store them together! They release moisture and gases that make the other spoil sooner.

Both onions and potatoes like a cool, dark, well-ventilated place – just make sure it's not the same place. Put them in different slots

When is the best time to eat fruit?🤔🤔
Despite online claims, there is no best time of day to eat fruit — people can get similar health benefits from fruit at any time of the day. That said, people with weight loss goals or diabetes can benefit from timing their fruit intake.
Eating fruit with a meal slows down digestion, meaning that food sits in the stomach for an extended time than the normal. This usually causes gas, bloating, and digestive discomfort.

Fruits are high in fiber, which slows the progression of food through the digestive tract- apples and bananas top the list.🍌🍎
✔✔People with gastrointestinal issues should consider taking fruits atleast 30 minutes before or after a dinner meal .

Even the smallest changes in your routine can have a big impact on your health. Take starting your day with lemon water, for instance👌👌
1. Aids in digestion✔✔
Acid helps break down food. That’s why there’s so much of it in our stomachs. The acid in lemons may be especially helpful in supplementing stomach acid levels, which tend to decline as we age.
2. Helps you stay hydrated✔✔

Most of us don’t drink enough water. A daily lemon water habit is an easy way to get your day off on the right foot. How do you know if you’re drinking enough? Your urine is almost clear.
3. Supplies a healthy dose of vitamin C✔✔
Juice half a lemon into your water and you’ll add a mere 6 calories to your diet. Plus you’ll get more than a sixth of your daily vitamin C, which is needed to protect us from cell damage and repair injury.
4. Helps prevent kidney stones✔✔
Lemon water helps prevent painful stones in those deficient in urinary citrate (a form of citric acid). More importantly, increased fluids help prevent dehydration — a common cause of kidney stones

DOES TIME REALLY MATTER IN HEALTHY EATING ?🤔

Sure, there is some truth to that old adage “You are what you eat.” But the latest research shows that when you eat can be just as crucial. “Eating in tune with your circadian rhythms—a.k.a. your body’s inner clock that guides you to wake and sleep—automatically helps your health. You are getting fuel when you can actually use it and allowing your body to rest when it needs to,” says Michael Roizen, MD.

Our bodies evolved to be primed for food during the day so that we’d have plenty of energy for survival. Meaning your body is most sensitive to insulin—a hormone that moves glucose from your blood into the majority of cells, including your muscle cells, to be used as fuel—during the day. ✔👌

Your resistance to insulin is highest at night, when you’re less active and your body thinks it should be slumbering. As a result, you wind up storing most of the calories you consume in the evening as fat.

Do you eat at specific times consistently ?

Apparently, SHARON isn't just a person's name , This fruit is also called Sharon or as commonly known Persimmons. They look like a yellowish to deep orange tomato and are very popular in Asian and Mediterranean dishes.😇

There are two main kinds you’ll find widely:

1. Fuyu - The Fuyu tend to be more tomato-y looking( Ripe to pretty firm, something like a pear)
2. Hachiya.- Hachiya are more oblong

Persimmons tastes something like an apple or a pear, but without the crispness✔✔.

They would be a great addition to your little one's diet around 8-10 months of age😊😊. They are not known to be highly allergenic and are tasty and simple to prepare. As always, be sure to consult your pediatrician about introducing foods to your baby.

👌Just one persimmon contains over half the recommended intake of vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin critical for immune function, vision and fetal development🍊🍊

Have you tasted them before ? Let us know in the comment section .

Persimmons are available , Order from www.organify.co.ke
