Afya Pwani is building the capacity of Mama groups (a peer support group for both first time mothers and non-first-time mothers) to make Uteos (locally made baskets/trays among other income generating activities for improved livelihood. "I feel empowered. I have learnt so much, thanks to DREAMS project. I hope to help other girls going similar situation to take charge and control of their lives", says Ashley a beneficiary of the DREAMS program.

DREAMS is a USAID Kenya funded initiative that empowers vulnerable adolescent girls and young women to become Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe – (DREAMS) women.

Ashley is part of the more than 15,600 girls who have received financial literacy training to rise out of poverty and become self-reliant as well as make right choices and remain free from HIV. USAID Kenya Mombasa County Government
