Vocal stimming is one of those things that can look random from the outside, but make perfect sense inside your own head.

Sometimes it is humming the same tiny bit of a song all day.

Sometimes it is repeating a word because it feels good in your mouth.

Sometimes it is making weird little sound effects while you move around the house.

Sometimes it is quoting the same film line, TikTok sound, or random phrase until everyone around you wants to file a complaint 🤣

But it is not always about trying to be annoying.

For a lot of neurodivergent people, sound helps regulate.

It can help with focus.

It can help release excitement.

It can fill uncomfortable silence.

It can make a task feel less boring.

It can calm the brain down when everything feels too much.

Sometimes the noise is not the problem.

Sometimes the noise is the thing helping us cope.

The funny bit is that half the time we do not even realise we are doing it until someone says, “you have made that noise 47 times.”

And then we stop.

For about six seconds.

Then the brain reloads the sound again like it is the national anthem of our nervous system.

Do you vocal stim?

What is your go-to sound, phrase, hum, quote, or random noise?

Quitting alcohol feels difficult when you believe you are giving up something valuable.

That belief creates the struggle.

Each time you think, “I can’t drink anymore,” your mind hears restriction. It imagines sacrifice, deprivation and a lifetime of missing out. Alcohol begins to look like a reward that has been unfairly taken away.

But what are you actually losing?

The hangovers.
The anxiety.
The broken promises.
The money spent.
The sleep disrupted.
The constant negotiation with yourself.

When you replace “I can’t” with “I don’t have to,” everything begins to change.

You are no longer standing outside a party wishing you could join. You are walking away from something that was taking far more than it ever gave.

You do not have to wake up ashamed.
You do not have to plan your life around the next drink.
You do not have to keep poisoning your body to feel relaxed, confident or included.

This is not punishment.

It is release.

The moment you stop seeing alcohol as something precious you are surrendering, sobriety stops feeling like deprivation—and starts feeling like freedom.

🚨 What if one meeting could change the rest of your life?
Millions of people around the world have found freedom from alcohol addiction through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)—not because they were judged, but because they were understood.
AA is built on hope, honesty, accountability, and the power of people helping people.

🚨 What if we've been treating addiction the wrong way all along?

Most people see addiction as a lack of discipline or faith.
Science says otherwise.
Addiction is a chronic brain disease that changes how the brain processes reward, decision-making, and self-control. Recovery isn't about shame—it's about treatment, support, accountability, and hope.
Instead of asking: ❌ "Why can't they just stop?"
Let's ask: ✅ "How can we help them recover?"
To our families, communities, and churches:
Don't close the door on people struggling with addiction.
Welcome them. Listen to them. Walk with them. Pray with them. Support their recovery without condemnation.
Healing happens best in a community where people are loved, accepted, and encouraged to seek help.
Someone you call "an addict" is someone's son, daughter, parent, spouse, or friend—and they deserve dignity and a chance to recover.
❤️ If you believe people should be supported instead of shamed, follow Rising Above Addiction Initiative, share this post, and help us change the conversation around addiction.
