To fulfil among it's many mandates of encouraging and securing provision of diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and other medical care to persons with cancer and in health institutions, the National Cancer Institute of Kenya is piloting a strstegic public-private collaboration with BD company to strengthen safe and high quality chemotherapy delivery in Kenya's health institutions. The collaboration will see the two institutions conduct a pilot quality improvement capacity building and implementation of Peripherally Inserted catheters (PICCs) and implantable venous access ports program for safe handling and administration of chemotherapy medications with the aim of improving treatment outcomes. The inaugural meeting was held at MTRH to deliberate on the project implementation roadmap.

World Brain Tumour Day – 8 June
Today, we join the global community in observing World Brain Tumor Day and raising awareness about brain tumors and the importance of early diagnosis.
Brain tumors can affect people of all ages. Beware of warning signs such as persistent headaches, seizures, vision changes, memory problems, and unexplained neurological symptoms; these can lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment outcomes.
Let us continue to support patients, caregivers, healthcare workers, and researchers working towards improved care and outcomes for those affected by brain tumors.
Together, we can promote awareness, encourage timely medical attention, and support those impacted by brain tumors.

Today, Mercy Osoro, a cancer survivor, and a childhood cancer advocate at NCI-K had the honor of representing our CEO DR. ELIAS MELLY, MBChB, MMed, MPH, MBA. at the National Cancer survivors' day, alongside Ms. Mary, a Board Member of NCI-K and a Cancer Survivor.

"Cancer tested our strength, but it did not define who we are today. It taught us resilience, courage, and gratitude. Every milestone we have reached is a reminder that hope is stronger than fear. Every birthday, every achievement, and every new day is a gift that we cherish deeply.

As we continue to advance the mandate of the National Cancer Institute of Kenya, we celebrate the growing number of cancer survivors whose lives demonstrate that early detection, timely treatment, quality care, and strong support systems save lives.

Today, we honor all survivors and those currently battling cancer. You are stronger than you know. We also celebrate parents, caregivers, doctors, nurses, and support teams who walk beside patients every step of the journey. Your compassion makes a world of difference.

As a survivor, I carry a responsibility to be a voice of hope. My story is proof that cancer is not always the end of the story. Through continued collaboration and commitment by NCI-K and its partners, more patients affected by cancer can survive and thrive.

Together, we can build a future where every person diagnosed with cancer has access to quality care and the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life." Mercy Osoro
